Just finishing up this build and ready to get it to it's rightful owner.

This is done using all Nighthawk parts except for ta Wilson low rider thumb safety and a Stan Chen magwell and mainspring housing.

I didn't take a photo of all the parts dumped out on a table and photos start with barrel fitting. The slide and frame fitting is already done.

I have posted this process before but just to make this thread as complete as possible here it goes.

First I determine how much material needs to come off the barrel width. The barrel lugs are locked in the center of the slide and this measurement tells me how much material to remove from the right side of the hood

Making certain that the barrel lugs are square in the mill I machine all but .001" off to allow for final hand fit. And that takes care of the right side.

Now for the left side I just need over all width and subtract slide measurement.

square lugs up and remove remaining excess metal.

A little hand polishing and it slides right in

    Next cutting hood length

Measuring opening and hood and remove extra

Next is to cut the barrel lugs. .200" Slide stop does not go in so I use a gage pin to determine how much to remove

Once again indexing barrel before making any cuts

This barrel fixture allow me to recreated a nice corner on the barrel lugs as I cut

Time for some cosmetic cuts. Once again indexing in the part

    First a flat top

    2

Then a couple ball cuts for borders

Then a nice little french cut just for the fun of it

    Needs sights

    Maybe some serrations too

    Just a little something extra

    Top Serrations

    This doesn't fit

    But it will

After some massaging to the frame the Stan Chen Magwell fits

    and relocate MSH hole

    Another thing

    A little mockup

    And then there is this

    Now this...

    Starting to look like something

    A few more cosmetics

    Thinking about test firing

Some bead blasting and polising on the slide done

added a little clearance for barrel link to aid in disassembly

    Some hand polishing

    Looking like a gun now

    Thanks for the feedback.
I love doing these builds and even more I like doing the one off requests instead of making a bunch of the same thing over and over, even though that would be easier and more profitable.
but as long as I am able to treat this as a hobby that is what makes me happy.

I will have to go look through the safe...... yep.... no Commander length 45. Guess that will be on my build list after the Super is done.

That is some very fine work! To me, being more of a woodworker, it's just amazing to see what you can do!

Question; Do you do the dehorning by hand? The sections I see the blue dye on?
