17th century (I think) Samurai Katana

A buddy brought this in and wants me to have it....Condition is not great....I've been watching YouTube videos (in Japanese lol) and due to the blade length (66 cms) and the shortness of the tang puts it in the mid to late Muromachi Period....many swords were produced at that time, some good, some not soo good....This one seems to be a good one....

If you are brave, the tang should have a maker mark. Gives a lot of info but you might already know this.

The story I got is that his uncle, a medic, got it in Normandy on D Day.....

I think his uncle may have got in in trade after the war from another veteran....

symbols are "army", "self defense" "money" and the smith is "Michi"

I have a rice powder and koji oil polishing kit for katana. I'd be happy to help you clean up the blade if you're so inclined. Won't harm it a bit.
