    Remind me which is which.

There's a whole lot of times I feel punished for disagreeing on INGO.

There are folks trying to drive out middle-right wingers from the GOP; they think they're the modern day St. Patrick driving out the snakes.

The attitudes and actions cross the lines.

Now, this is not excusing the woke left and their utter insanity for PC.
When was the last time we threatened your job, threatened (or followed through with) taking away economic opportunity from your community, or barred you from public places over your positions on anything?

You aren’t middle of the road or a right winger. No one gets punished here for disagreeing but it is a discussion forum and when people show up spouting stupid ******** they get called on it. It’s part of hanging around with conservative types and why the liberals are rarely among us or at least posting. They don’t like the truth, it’s like sunlight on a vampire.

Being old I've never felt the immersive quality of the internet, it's like an interactive book to me that you can simply put down, like turning off the tv. I enjoy my quiet, uneventful, but real, life in the woods.

That said I have observed behavior in recent years that I find troubling. Many are so immersed in the internet that they seem controlled by it, the realities of life like holding a job, raising a family, getting along are being replaced by the gods of social media and these deities are selfish ones. I can't understand how the opinions of "people" on the other side of a monitor can reach through the screen and have so much impact on others. Smart phones look like talismans you see people waving at experiences they either like, dislike, or want interpretation of.

It seems like people are being absorbed into cults without ever attending meetings. The Jim Jones of today has more reach than at any time in history and people need to stop, turn off the phone and reflect.

Don't pretend it's not going both ways. That's the result of treating people who disagree with you politically as the enemy and then hyperpoliticizing everything. I've been beating the drum about Balkanization for awhile, but it's apparently only visible when "they" do it.
In the 90's I was calling it "Balkanization Theater", illustrated by a Punch and Judy show with a pair of scaly clawed feet sticking out below the booth.

Some prefer to ignore politics in the misguided hope that politics will leave them alone. Some consider themselves above politics or even too righteous for politics in some cases. Neither seem to have any qualms about attacking those of us that recognize reality, who recognize that regardless of our actual preferences on the subject, we must engage a defense or be completely overwhelmed by the aggressors on the Left.

Defending one's self or others has never been equivalent to attacking others and yet, some make that contention on a regular basis. Equating the defender with the aggressor does little more than enable the aggressor. Still, time and time again we see those that claim to hate politics, those who claim to refuse to participate, show up just long enough to throw those us who recognize the threat under the bus. At its core this attitude is nothing more than appeasement and appeasement never works for long. In this case, the appeasement only works until the Left succeeds in eliminating those of us on the Right trying to defend ourselves (and you as well, though you conveniently ignore it) and turn their full attention to those of you sitting on the fence. How will you continue to ignore reality then I wonder? Will you finally wake up to the danger or even then, will you still stubbornly cling to the bliss of ignorance.

We recently attended an annual get together of my wife's tribe. They are all good people and several are Dems. There was a kind of unwritten rule, "no politics" and it worked well. Everyone had a good time. Funny thing is, the Dems live like conservatives but vote Dem.

People turn to the internet because things like getting and holding a good job, buying/maintaining property, and raising a family seem more unachievable by the day.

The progressive/conservative arguments to me boil down to one group wanting to change everything to what they want now, even if it involves the use of government force and another group that really just wants to be left alone. All my life I've seen people that really believed that the total elimination of private firearms ownership forever will somehow usher in the Age of Aquarius or something to that effect. Others that believed that socialism was the true future of mankind, trying to ignore the brutal regimes that practiced it, and finally watching the socialist mother ship country dissolve in 91. I find myself asking if the "balkanization" isn't just one group reacting to the other.

Same thing happened during the Cultural Revolution. Push the young to betray or cut off their family, leaving them alone with only the Party to be their family.

This is all on one side. Republicans roll their eyes at impressionable go-with-the-crowd kids voting Democrat, but they don't cut them out of their lives. Only one party is egging people on to retaliate against wrong-voters in their personal lives. It's to get them alone and vulnerable to being swallowed up by the collective and converted into a propaganda-spewing NPC. It works, too, because once you've treated your family like that there's no going back. It's your bloody initiation into the gang.
    Little red books.

All I can say is I've only seen the Left calling for people to unfriend them on my social media because of voting for Trump. If we disagree with anything, even respectfully, we are racist, bigots, hateful, ignorant, uneducated, etc.. Bizarre.
That's how they remain in the wrong - surpress all contrary information.
