I don't have any kids, but I've been teaching my nephew gun safety and he is 6. The things he remembers at the age of six is crazy!
I wasn't allowed to handle a gun in my house until I was 13. Those were just the rules.
I didn't get anything last year or the year before. Had plenty of opportunities but wanted the wife to get something. Last year she shot a huge 8 point and I think I was more excited than she was. We butcher our own, so that was enough for me to process.
This year I'm shooting something...
So we were at a friends house yesterday, who happened to have a 350 legend. Dad grabbed it up and shot it a few times and said "Man I need this for deer hunting." I think he has changed his mind now lol. He liked the fact that it had almost no recoil. It was funny because he was still flinching...
I always try to get my dad out to the range. I have quite a few guns and always ask him if he wants to shoot one, most of the time he says no but most of the time I can get him behind a gun.
Sounds like you are a good shot and your dad trusts that. That's pretty cool!
Alot of his problem is recoil. That damn 12 gauge kicked like a mule and I could tell just from watching him shoot it that was the issue. Having an accurate firearm that you enjoy shooting can play a key factor in your hunting experience. I do agree with you on the weight and ease of carry also...
I really don't know enough about the 350. I wish I had a few more months so I could shoot one myself and see. I have a few guns he could borrow, but man he'd be ecstatic to have a new gun to hunt with. It's something he'd never buy for himself.
