You are not alone, I've been trapping for about 43 years. It was how I made money back when I was in Junior and High School. With fur prices down I am a hobby trapper these days. I do it to keep the coyote and racoon numbers down on my property and for my neighbor's. Feel free to contact me to...
A good friend and I duck hunt every year. My advise would be ask around and find somebody who already duck hunts and ask to go along. Some good advice listed so far but too much to remember starting out,IMO. I do hunt small spots from a canoe from time to time but starting out in a blind or more...
I have had the itch for mil-surp CMP vintage sniper match type rifles for a few years now. Because of this I have a Mosin 91/30 sniper in my collection. I have friends that collect and shoot many Mosins but they have never done anything for me. IMO
The .44 SPL is a greatly under appreciated caliber these days. I have a rare S&W 396 Mountain Lite in .44 SPL. One of my all time favorite guns. I am glad to see I am not alone in my high opinion of the ol' .44.
I have and shoot several mil-surp rifles including several M1 Garands. I had an M1 Carbine do this same thing with Korean ammo of dubious origin. Your Garand most likely can be fixed but why take the chance of using any part of bad ammo?
Two of the guides are now retired, the first guide/ outfitter I used(back in 1998) is still in business North Country Lodge outside Patton Maine. The other two guides were better IMO. I did harvest a bear at North Country, their lodge is very nice and food was great, my only complaint is they do...
I agree with those who have suggested a good .22 handgun or rifle. Good way to get started shooting without heavy recoil getting in the way of fundamentals. And spending a day shooting at the range with any .22 firearm won't beat you up. Good luck.
Like I said I have bear hunted Maine four times using three different outfitters. If you have ever wanted to hunt bear then Maine is a great place to hunt and the state is beautiful(looks like northern Michigan but with mountains). Lots of guides/outfitters, good bear population, and over the...
I have hunted black bear in Maine four times and have taken three bears. I would consider a .357 Mag loaded with a heavy bullet to be my minimum suggestion for black bear. I would feel confident carrying my S&W 681 loaded with either Garrett or Buffalo Bore ammo.
