Does 686-6 key fit other 686 locks?

Thank you cosermann! I've had an opportunity to buy a 686 4" without the key and passed, but now have purchased a 686+ 3" with the key (yet to receive). And since, 2 is always better than 1, I'm thinking more about getting that 686 4" and using the same key for both. Would it work?

Does 686-6 key fit other 686 locks?

I have a dumb question. Does the 686-6 key fit other 686 locks (ie from one S&W gun to the next having same lock)? I've never seen the lock up close, but it doesn't look like there could be many variations as it seems pretty simple.:draw:

      Such a thing as 686-8???

Is there such thing as a S&W 686-8? I found a guy selling one online, but was thinking that -6 is the highest revision and I know the 6 and 8 can look alot alike. Could he have misread the stencil mark? :n00b:

Should I buy first handgun online???

The transfer is $25 at the Indiana Gun Club, which is in Fortville technically, but I consider it Fishers. I like that place. The $150 transfer statement was by someone else not living in Fishers. I'm not sure what shop they were referring to ... heck, not even sure what state.

Should I buy first handgun online???

$150 transfer fee - wow! Buying online really takes a hit in that case. I will check out the INGO. Thank you.

      Bicentennial 1867-1967 30-30

Thanks BikerDad! That is some good information. I've never had it out o the case for more than a minute at a time to show off. I think that I will take it out and put a good shine on it. That being said - what do I use for a good cleaner? I figure anything over the counter is ok, but know some...

Should I buy first handgun online???

I've found the 686 and 686+ locally for $800. After tax, the cost would be in the neighborhood of $850 with taxes. I can get the same gun online used for under $600, but will cost me around $40 for shipping and $35 for local club transfer fee. Finding seller in Indiana would be the key. If in...

Should I buy first handgun online???

I'm looking to by my first revolver and online seems to be the best way to find what I'm looking for used or slightly used. 1) what website would you recommend? 2) are there rules/laws for buying and selling? I've found armslist to have many guns, but most are out of state an would...

      The Governor - wow!

I am newbie when it comes to most firearms especially handguns. I hunted with shotguns when I was a teenager, but went to college and haven't made time since. I never knew that there were handguns that shoot shotgun shells.
