DNR clarifies rifles allowed-and it's great!

because it is soooooo much better for me to go deer hunting with my SKS than my 7mm_08 bolt action savage :ugh:

HB1231 passes in house- (Centerfire rifles for deer hunting)

geesh. if I have to wait for them to add cartridges by name I'll be 90 years old before they even consider the 7-08 I own........

You can collect a "small amount for a personal collection". You can NOT collect them and sell them.

      Brand new hunter recommendations

If I were starting over again from scratch, I'd go buy a ladder stand and a muzzle loader. The learning curve on becoming proficient with the ML is much faster than compared to the bow yet you get a longer season than just a shotgun/rifle. You can also get into a decent ML more cheaply than...

      This kind of sucks

But it allows you to hunt multiple seasons without buying tags for each season. That is where the value is.

      2015 Firearms Season Deer Thread

Opening day was awful. I went to my normal spot and apparently so did everyone else. It was a sea of headlamps before dawn. Any deer that stood up got mowed down. I saw three deer and they were all flying by. I went back out Monday and saw a doe right at sun up for a split second. The joys...

      Hoosier National Forest Carry?

Carry is legal however the 100 yard from lake Monroe comment is kinda sorta partially inaccurate. The army corps boundary is not a constant 100 yards. In some places it is but it may be more or less depending on what parcel of land you are standing on. I would say it is a good rule of thumb...

Adult Timber Rattler Spotted in Morgan Monroe State Forrest

There are quite a few in the Deam Wilderness and Nebo Ridge areas on HNF. A lady I know took a picture in the wilderness last week of a rattler and copperhead within a few feet of each other. They posed where you can see both in the same pic!

Our deer biologist s moving on...to Michigan

This is my personal observation and is nothing more than that. The areas I frequent have tons of deer sign, but I rarely see a deer. Is it possible that we we as hunters have selectively removed deer that have a genetic predisposition for moving during the day and created (at least in...

** OFFICIAL 2014 DAILY DEER HUNT CHAT**

Saw a massive big bodied 8 at 3pm yesterday. He came in to 32 yards in the one spot I can't squeeze and arrow through. Gun season and I would have had him. There was a smallish 6 trailing about 30 seconds behind him. Of course the 6 walks right under my stand, go figure. I hit the doe bleat...
