Finally finished a project 20 years in the making....I might be done.
Ban era SLR-101, authentic Bulgarian milled rifle. Before it was even fired I sent it to Ohio Rapid Fire which I believe is now defunct or a shadow of its former self. They chopped the barrel and blind pinned an AMD-65...
My recently acquired 627 Performance Center felt the same way to me. I didn't want to drop big money on custom wood grips that I couldn't hold before I purchased.
If you can find a set of the x-frame grips(I think they will fit the L-frame)that's what I found and really like the size. Shallow...
Everything except my mortgage goes on a credit card, paid off every month. I've never made any single major purchases with the cash back, always just roll it back into my balance. I don't keep track of the total but I'm sure it's somewhere more than a free gun but much less than a free...
I use precision, lathe turned wooden dowels. Through months(minutes) of T&E it was determined that .10" under bore diameter would work, but what about length.....
The length would need to strike a balance. Long enough to support the gun at the appropriate angle for presentation but short...
Won't be a problem.
The mechanics and metallurgy of the weapon are designed to contain a small explosion, supporting its own weight won't cause any damage.
It shoots like a dream.
Underwood 125+p has quite a kick, but tolerable and prints to the sights.
No light primer strikes, no tight b/c gap issues. I believe I'll keep it.
When you hear about a lemon, that's one thing. When 2 lemons turn to juice, and you witness both.....that'll turn you off from a brand.
Like I said, they may have come a long way in the last 20 years but at that time 100% of the Taurus firearms that I had come into contact with were junk...
I know they're better than in the past..... but I won't touch one.
After watching one 454 raging bull launch the barrel down range.....then a pt92 wear the frame rails clean through.....I'm out. These failures were both witnessed by me(not my guns) back in the early 2000's.
Picked it up from my LGS this afternoon. Trigger feels great and it locks up SOLID. No obvious issues after a thorough inspection. I'll be shooting it this weekend.
Ordered through Bud's yesterday. Today they drop the price by $60!?!
I filed a claim with the Norton guarantee BS for a price match refund.
Edit:
They honored the price and are sending me the difference. Nice.
Resurrection
I just ordered one from Buds. It wasn't on sale....but I haven't seen it in stock anywhere lately.
I had an airweight centennial j-frame years ago. Wanted to get another one but this caught my eye.
