I also have a 709 (its my cc) and yes, I had some problems with the Winchester White Box (100 rds) too. But overall I like it. Thinking about getting the 740 version (40 cal).

Didn't find out that mine was canted until I went to range and went through many frustrating hours and rounds. I eventually zeroed though. I guess what I'm saying is, if you don't mind your front sight post maxed out to one side, you can still zero and hit targets, if it's not canted too much...
I've had my CF-380 since 2003 and had one misfire and two stoppages. It's
accurate and fun to shoot. Not easy to field strip though, you have to use tools.
But I love it none the less.
