They all take dirt naps around my place. Never tried eating one.... maybe next time.
I will not eat one of the disease carrying pest infested vermin. My boy shot one with a 17hmr, being his first I decided to skin it for him. I hung the trash panda up by his legs and a ball of worms, size of a baseball came flopping out of the exit hole . Needless to say the skinning process stopped.

We eat the younger ones. Fry them up like rabbit or chicken. They are good.
The old ones are just tough and imo not worth messing with. Maybe a pressure cooker?
The ones around here feed on corn or soybeans, or livestock/pet feed. They love cat food, even the cheap junk.

DNR should put a bounty on them. I feel they are the main reason the turkey #s are in decline. I've done 6 this year. In season of course.
I have no idea why idnr has a season on them. The coon hunters rarely kill them due to fur market and would rather have coons for dog work, my uncle is good example.

Kansas state university did a study where the located 100 turkey nests. Set up cams and monitored predation. 99 we're raided by trash pandas . Kansas numbers are down on turkey too. 2 bird limit no more.

I kill every coon on my place and run over every one I can on my way to work. Seems like for every one I kill , 10 more move in. I have two major creeks on farm and white river is over the ridge. Plenty of coon migration in my neck of woods. Hate them.

~30 years ago there weren’t any turkeys in Ind. Fur prices will rebound when Russia and China get there just dues, If coons become overpopulated Mother Nature will take care of it. IDNR is the best outfit to manage wildlife in Ind. kill’em if ya want. No skin off my nose. JMO

Growing up, Dad had a friend with a pack of coon dogs.... guys would run around the woods at night while the dogs ran off to their work.

Never got to do it myself....one of my regrets.

A while back, I read a "kids' book" that I never got around to reading when I was a kid...."Where the Red Fern Grows". Brought back some good memories of those guys and dogs I got to meet long ago.

We always had a mason jar with us. For the chill of course.

Trappin season it was peppermint schnapps

Tried it once many years ago with two friends who were regulars at hunting them. Dogs got on a deer and we never saw a coon all night, still had fun. Jim.
