It think the intimidation tactics go on more than is realized.

Back in the day a friend of mine dated a gal who worked for child protection. She was a train wreck. Her personal life was a mess, blamed her parents and the church for all her life ills. Was scared to death to travel at night in rural areas because "all those people are devil worshippers." Worshipped her female supervisor who liked to pick up married men. So, this gal with all these problems was making life changing decisions for families, when her own life was a mess.
