    Info on this please
Just going by the news story in the Indy Star.

"HEA 1296, which I've signed today, entrusts Hoosiers who can lawfully carry a handgun to responsibly do so within our state," Holcomb said in a statement. "It’s important to note that if a person is prohibited, under federal or state laws, from possessing a firearm before this law goes into effect, that person will still be prohibited. And if a prohibited person has a firearm, he or she can be prosecuted."

OK thanks for the update. Simply put, none legal firearm possession=no right to carry. If in the case a felon was caught carrying, would they still be charged w/both illegal possession and carrying illegally or just one of the two?

We are not far from going over half of the country voting this in. That will be monumental, if it's not already.

So, now let's get to work on getting suppressors off of the NFA, at least in Indiana.

    .
Would be awesome to see Constitutional Carry across the US for residents and nonresidents of individual states. I'm glad I still have my permit though so I can carry in the states that have reciprocity with Indiana. Suppressors would be a nice next step as well!

When does this take effect, at the signing?
    From the NRA website.
"Today, Governor Eric Holcomb signed House Bill 1296, constitutional carry, into law. The General Assembly previously passed HB 1296 on March 8th. This makes Indiana the 24th constitutional carry state, and the third to join that group in 2022, following Ohio and Alabama. Indiana already offers free lifetime carry permits, so constitutional carry ensures that law-abiding citizens who are already eligible to obtain a carry permit can access their right-to-carry without government red tape and delays. Constitutional carry will go into effect on July 1st, 2022."

Jul 1. Constitutional carry the law in Indiana. Big thanks to those who worked so hard to get this done.

I'm honestly surprised. He's never struck me as being particularly pro-2nd Amendment, and I figured he would cave to all of the various police groups who were opposed to it.

Well, well, well. I didn't hear any mention of it on the mainstream news today. Huh.

The only thing I saw on the local news was all of the police groups saying that if the Constitution was followed, it would make it harder and more dangerous for them. Pretty much all of the talking points that Moms Demand Action was spewing. My guess is that a lot of money from Moms Demand is flowing to the top ranks of police agencies.

That's great, but let's get what we can now, while we are still young.

We should be able to stop at the hardware store and pick up a suppressor, on the way to the range. Without asking the king's permission or signing up for anything.

    .

You mean like we used to be able to stop at the hardware store and buy a firearm and a rake? Or how we could mail-order virtually anything and have it delivered to our house? Like a Solothurn.

Glad to see Governor Holcomb had the common sense to see that a criminal who would shoot a Police Officer cares NOTHING about a carry permit.
PLUS, improper persons who wouldn't be able to get a permit are STILL prohibited from carrying.

Especially since it seems that the majority of shooters lately are either teens, or convicted felons, who usually still have their GPS ankle monitor on.

Does anyone know how this may effect reciprocity with other states who currently accept our LTCH?
In the news stories I've read the state police superintendent is quoted as saying “We will continue to encourage citizens to apply for, and maintain, a firearms permit. A permit will assist law enforcement officers and will also allow a permit holder reciprocity with other states”

The way I read it, I think the bill doesn't have any direct effect on reciprocity with other states; you can still apply for and receive a LTCH, and it will still be recognized by other states that currently recognize it. You just don't HAVE to have one to carry in Indiana (as of July 1, that is.)

Hearing some chatter on the web that it was the lt governor that signed the constitutional bill not holcomb, is this something that can be done or am i just hearing noise, first i heard it was on guns and gadgets?

Is the inverse also true? For example, would someone from Ohio still need a Ohio permit to carry in Indiana? I would assume yes but figured it was worth asking.
