And how about the LP gas for heating your home??? Our tank was at 12% and hubby was waiting to call for a fill because he figured summer prices would be better. I don't see the prices going down anytime soon so I suggested he call and get it done before it gets even worse.

I'm not sure we made the right call, but they filled it yesterday. $2.89 a gallon. 500 gallon tank and they put in less than $400 gallons...just under $1,200. We have never paid anything close to that for a fill. Time to cut more firewood and use both wood stoves instead of just the main one with the furnace for a back up.

I do believe you made the right call Mom. Sad but true.

I think so too. I think it is going to get very bad real fast. People are going to have to start deciding what bills to pay after paying for gas and heat for their homes. Those increased wages aren't going to go far. I heard someone say yesterday that the price of soybeans was way up, which is great if you have some left to sell. However, I can only imagine what it is going to cost to raise them this year if they can find seed to plant. Farmers are going to be hit especially hard with planting season coming up very soon.

    That's not really that bad.

I was quoted $2.50 last week, really expected an number starting with a 3.

Back when I bought my wood boiler in '08 we were paying well over $3/galllon.

LP is a byproduct of turning crude oil into gasoline and the product has far less demand than gasoline. As long as the refineries are running at capacity, LP doesn't go up as fast as gas. But I'm sure it's gonna keep going up.

    Let's be realistic folks.

Russia launched and entirely unprovoked attack on Ukraine. That there would be repercussions to this attack was inevitable. ANY administration, democratic or republican, would have responded in some way.

Sanctions have been used now for decades. That there would be severe sanctions for a massive attack on Ukraine was easily predictable. This is hurting everyone, the USA and our allies, and especially Russia.

Russian companies stocks are bad. Their value has plummeted so bad that Russia hasn't even allowed its stock market to be open for a week! Link: https://markets.businessinsider.com...-sanctions-ukraine-invasion-ruble-2022-3?op=1

The value of the largest Russian bank, Sberbank, has fallen from slightly less than $15 / share to less than $0.55 in a month! (Except that you cannot buy it now) https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/SBRCY?p=SBRCY&.tsrc=fin-srch

Let's not forget that when Pres Trump imposed tariffs on China prices also went up, some very high, although admittedly not as high as gas.

And we as Americans don't have it so bad at all, at least not compared to our European friends. The worldwide price of gas by county puts the USA in the cheaper third of the world. https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/gasoline_prices/

Please do not misunderstand me, I do NOT like this! When I went to work this morning in Fort Wayne the price was basically $4.00 / gallon. When I went home it was $4.25.

The difference is that I am not shocked and do not blame President Biden. We would have done very similar no matter who was president. I'll just be glad when it's over.

    Regards,

Electric heat is actually the most efficient means to heat with. 100% of the heat goes into the conditioned space and none up the flue. It's just insanely expensive to do so.
When we still lived in that horrible state of Illinois we had natural gas baseboard heat. Now we have a new modular about the same size except no basement and all electric. When I look back and compare total heat and electric it is pretty close to what we were paying for both.
If natural gas was available in our area would have went with that but the only other option was propane. Good thing we found out lot to build on when we did, doubt we could do it now. Jim.

My friend texted me about this a day or two ago. It's just now hitting Fox news.

Sounds like Biden and the democrats should open up America for oil like Trump did once again or use Canadian oil. Actually do both.

Filled the Challenger up late last fall, garage queen for winter so far. Ram got filled couple weeks ago and setting. Put insurance couple months ago on the beater Nissan that gets 30 mpg and filled up last week. also 2 months ago filled up five 5 gallon cans of gas.....thank goodness I don't have a job or I would go broke driving back and fourth to work just to work for the gas to get to work....LOL. Sad isn't it.

Biden and democrats want gas at $20 a gallon.....its the plan in their wisdom to get off gas and force people to buy electric cars, even though if everyone did we can't supply enough power to keep them all running....thats not the point. The point is they have stock in electric cars.

    My family farms.

Was talking to my cousin at church Sunday and he said the price of fertilizer has more than doubled from last year and thats if he can even get it. He works for a huge company who plants and test seed in this area and they still have not been able to get their seed or fertilizer in for the season yet. Not that is matters much since they have been waiting for months for combine, tractor and planter parts to come in.

My uncle is not planting corn this year, too expensive and doesnt think he can even get it in.

My son just filled 4 gas cans this morning in Fort Wayne at $3.98 and as soon as he finished the price bumped to $4.38

I predict the problem will go from high prices to trying to find gas available.

Yup. The price hikes are happening to destroy demand to match supply. It's going to start running short as people bottom out on driving. Work and school and shopping aren't optional.
