To be fair, we used Dos based WordPerfect back then...but the point stands.

Yes. Many of the civilian deaths were attributed to "friendly fire".I don't know about Dorie Miller specifically, but in the utter panic following the complete surprise....that kind of thing happened.
I would think if you were stuck on a warship for a few years you might want to learn some things - particularly the weapons.Yes. Many of the civilian deaths were attributed to "friendly fire".
But, the guy was trained as a cook.
How many people would know how to operate one of those if it wasn't their job?
I also spent several years on a warship.I would think if you were stuck on a warship for a few years you might want to learn some things - particularly the weapons.
My uncle was stuck on a carrier for the duration of WWII and he learned all sorts of stuff that wasn't in his job description. Of course that was his personality too - he loved to learn about how things worked.

While I agree, the one thing that Windows (or Linux or any other GUI based system) does that DOS didn't is multitasking. I'm very grateful for the ability to, say for instance, update my OS while still being able to use the computer for other tasks.I guess it was about 15 years ago I installed DOS on a modern computer of that time. Not using a DOS emulator but real DOS. Some things just screamed they were so fast. Probably since it wasn't handicapped like windows with so much pretty screen embellishment.
They filmed that scene and several others in the Middle Loch of Pearl Harbor using the inactive ships moored there at the time. The ship that Cuba is swinging through and shooting up is a Knox class fast frigate, commissioned in the late 60's/early 70's. They were all decommissioned by the time of the movie's filming in 2000.It's probably not good that Cuba is shooting up the other US ships at Pearl Harbor.
And if you look at the hull numbers, they're too high to have been in the 40s.They filmed that scene and several others in the Middle Loch of Pearl Harbor using the inactive ships moored there at the time.
