    Training is good.
    Training is great.
    I highly recommend it.
But, no matter how good it is, at the bottom of the matter, your brain knows it's not real.

When the s* hits the fan, the training will be better than no training.
But it's no guarantee that your brain will realize, NOW it's REAL, and you could DIE.
    It makes a big difference.

IPD and MCSO didn't get rifles until after Jason Baker and Jake Laird were killed. At first we were issued DRMO rifles but now have to purchase our own. We can still be issued Remington 870s. We don't have them in the passenger compartment because the department won't buy racks for them.
Some years ago (less than 10) 'The Professor' had his rifle AND rack torn out of his cruiser right in front of the house early one morning. They found it in the possession of one of the Grove's upstanding citizens.

Agree. But it isn't as simple as some people are making it out to be.

Me and you. One on one. Mano a Mano.

Who will **** themselves first? Simulated gun fight calls for simulated shits. I'm eating a crave case and a 12 pack of Taco Bell tacos before the showdown. You don't have a chance.

When bullets start flying the gig is up!

I missed a guy that was running at me at about 20 meters several times with a M4. A female MP took him out with a M249.
Adrenaline is a hell of a drug!
Panic is even worse you might die in a gunfight even if you are well trained.
    Luck is a MF$er!

Give me some time to save up the $. And we'll both eat sliders and tacos before hand, to make it even.

You're just saying that to make us non-shooting (and no law-knowing) JBTs feel better. But I appreciate it, every little bit helps.

I’ve been shot at plenty of times before. Adrenaline is definitely real, my heart starts racing like crazy. Once I got shot and there wasn’t anything I could do to prevent it. I couldn’t stop cussing. Damn cat stepped on the keyboard and made me put my gun away, right as a guy turned the corner. I just shut it off and went to bed after that.

I've always wanted to see how I shoot with adrenaline flowing. I got great at dealing with adrenaline in healthcare when I worked in hospitals, but working the med cart and being "hey pharmacy" during a code is a little different than getting shot at I would imagine.

Out of curiosity, why is that? I would think as society gets more violent every LEO would want a long gun readily accessible. Is it just personal preference, or is it assigned by the department? Is it a transporting arrestees thing? And if you did have a long gun, why would you not want it with you in the front?

    Just something I’ve always wondered.
There is department in Lake county that does not issue shotguns or rifles to their officers. If you want one you have to purchase it with your own coin. Which I think is absolutely ridiculous. Our oldest son has been a cop for 8 years. He told me the level of violence within the last year and a half has gone completely off the radar.

Doesn't that make the officer's long gun purchase for the job a tax write off?
