I’m new to Indiana, specifically the broader Bloomington area, and I’ve realized there’s pretty much nowhere to shoot if you don’t have any land. Most the people I see end up going to point blank, but on here I see a lot of hate towards it. Any help?

Become a member of Hoosier Hills Rifle and Pistol Club. Their outdoor range is a few miles east of Nashville off of hwy 46.

This would be great, except they require an NRA membership. Not only am I not a member, but I’d rather not give them ANY money for any reason.

Precision Gun Range in Spencer recently closed down.

About 30 minutes to the south of Bloomington is Panther Ridge Training Center. It's not a typical range with open hours that you come rent an hour or two, it's a private gun club with 6 month / yearly fee. You can do a lot at Panther Ridge -- plenty of room to move and shoot, bench rest bays at 100 yards, and a 600 yard range.

When I was a member I'd sometimes have the whole 100 yard area to myself for 3-4 hours at a time.

And you don't need NRA or any other membership for Panther Ridge.

Other good ranges within 45 min of Bloomington: Hoosier Hills Rifle and Pistol (need NRA), South Central Gun Club (not sure if NRA membership needed)

Atterbury was the go-to when I lived in Bloomington. The county is kind of a wasteland for good, accessible ranges. Never got into any of the clubs.

There just might be a reason a lot of the rural clubs and ranges require an NRA membership? It'd likely be a good education to look into that, eh?

This was just one example after a quick search. There is a lot more to find on INGO and beyond.

The Panther Ridge range is pretty neat. Not too many places with 600yd ranges but they have one with a covered bench area to shoot from. One can also 'move and shoot' there. However, it is a ways out there (location wise) and one has to call and arrange for access each time they want to go there, which is a little off-putting. Maybe they've changed their access protocol since I was there a few years ago.

Im in Bedford, a little south of Bloomington. I go to Atterbury Shooting Complex just about every Saturday. It is kinda far away but I have fun cars so don’t mind that. It’s cheap $7/hr and they will let you share a lane if you want. They also bill 1/2 hours after first hour so you don’t really need to keep track of time to not pay $7 for 10min. They are really good about keeping it safe. Clean restroom, nice employees, drinks and snacks.

Lots of people go there and there are lots of rules, for good reason. You can only shoot paper targets and you cannot shoot fast.

If you find a good place closer let me know! Next weekend I was going to try the new place in Spencer. I have never been there. Website says $15/hr and no lane sharing. Thats double but it would definitely save me that $7 in fuel so I am going to see what its like. Precision Gun Range its called.

CTBay, you better check but I think that PGR closed last year in April.

Besides Hoosier Hills, it seems as if the obvious choices for shooting ranges would be Riley Conservation Club or South Central Gun Club.

They are an hour drive and likely do require NRA membership. Clubs get a lot of NRA financial support for programs, shooting sports, youth shooting, etc

If your NRA hate is worth the pay per hour shooting lane rates of the high dollar ranges, then so be it.
