First 5 minutes could be titled "America First" and "Making America Great Again" I thought that sort of jingoistic rhetoric was bad?

Favorite contradiction: Jobs Act - "90% of these new jobs will not require a college degree". Followed by (paraphrase) "We must give two years of free college cause you can't succeed in the 21st century without a degree".

Didn’t watch, but Congressman Scott (R) rebuttal was awesome stuff.
And they say that racism is a problem in America still. Looking at the WTHR link on FB to his speech, they are right. A couple of of the first comments: "He just does what his masters tell him to do. He's just an Uncle Tom."

And the poster isnt white. Huh. Go figure.

And the media commentary repeatedly referred to him as the first black Republican senator from SC and the only black republican senator. Their racist implications are so thinly veiled.

It wasn't called the state of the union because Biden is a newly inaugurated president and their first address to Congress hasn't been called the state of the union since Reagan began the practice of the newly inaugurated president delivering the address (as opposed to the outgoing president)

Trump's 2017 address was also not a "state of the union" nor was Obama's 2009 speech

That doesn't help the conspiracy theories ;)

Didn't realize this. I thought maybe they were just trying to keep the Qanon people spooled up.

And today I learned something. Thanks for the explanation. Aside from the desire to critique the speech, I honestly was wondering.

Glad I could help clear something up. It does make more sense when the speech is given around the usual date, since at that time he only would have been president for a few weeks and wouldn't necessarily have a firm grasp on the, well, state of the union lol (insert whatever joke about Biden not having a firm grasp on anything here)

Wife and I sat through it. Total BS but I was surprised he didn't stumble on his words very much. The man stands for everything wrong with our country. I consider him as an enemy who is trying to destroy my way of life.
From one perspective. Others think the opposite. Both beliefs are fringe. I like the Biden presidency more than the Trump one, but don't agree with everything he says/does.

That's racist! ...but I'm not exactly sure why.
IKR? Black, white, green, whatever, he was an excellent choice to deliver the response. But I also have no trouble believing that his race was a factor in his being chosen. Is that racist? Maybe. But I hope it was seen as an opportunity to spotlight a proud minority member of the party that clearly counters the stereotype put forth by the MSM.

As to the MSM constantly pushing the only black Republican theme, that seems to imply he's only there cause he is black - an "Uncle Tom" the Republicans can trot out.
