Why do members post for trade only? Why not trade for green, gold or silver and buy exactly what you want? I just don't get it? Just what is gained by offering for trade only?

@55fairlane Vast majority of the trade requests/offers I see there are for normal stuff, not hard to find stuff.

Thinking they can't find what they want to buy straight up or that they don't want to pay covid-inflated prices.
Don't think they can get a decent sale price for what they have.

    Mostly wishful thinking.

Some folks live in households which operate under a "no new guns policy", however this policy could contain a loophole that as long as the number of guns in the house remains the same, there is no issue. So, a trade does not count as a new gun. Also, I suspect that some people are at the limits of the capacity of their safes, and they don't want to go buy yet another $1500 safe just because they bought a new gun so the trade situation might make sense there.

    Pretty much Michigan.
Sometimes your looking for something specific and youd rather have what you have than cash. I passed up semi local cash and made a 2.5hr trip to Fisher to trade for ammo earlier this year. The ammo i got and gun i traded ment more to me than the cash. Plus i got to meet the one and only Robert Richardson lol.

On the rare occasion that I list something, I prefer to trade because I know that I have a bad habit of not paying off my credit card. Trading for exactly what I'm wanting avoids this issue.

I’ve thought about putting a trade only ad in on occasion. It was for situations like having a great handgun in 9mm but wanting one in .40 more. If I sold it outright, I’d be down one gun until I could find one and who knows what the pricing would be. My thought at the time was that if there was someone with a .40 that wanted a 9mm more, and if the guns were in like condition, it would be an easy swap.

I never did post the ad though since in the end, I decided that I wanted both.
