      Gun Vault??

Existing concrete walls/block--prep thoroughly and paint with block filler to retard moisture intrusion. The weakest link to physical intrusion through a vault door may not be the door itself, but the connection between the masonry and the door frame--if you are dealing with a pre-existing...

      Gun Vault??

Suggestions for those interested in secure rooms, I've read both of these and they are excellent resources: HOW TO IMPLEMENT A HIGH SECURITY SHELTER IN THE HOME The first item on the page is a paperback book with most of the important considerations for a high security shelter thoroughly...

      Sleeping Bags

Never heard of this one before, but I followed your link and it looks a lot like a Snugpak (by another name). I say that from the design of stuff sack, the picture with the hand holding the bag up and the specs. Just a guess. The "GSA" in the name makes me wonder if Snugpak has started...

      Sleeping Bags

Another vote for the issue MSS bags. Uncle Sam paid upwards of $300-400 for those bags new. Getting a nicely used one for over a $100 is a deal. They can vary in condition, so order from a known good source, or eyeball them directly before you buy. What makes this system so useful is the range...

Smoky Mountain National Park backpacking recs.

If you're planning to tent camp, there's a nice trail up to Blanket Mountain with a designated camping area along the way up. You can set up camp and then climb the rest of the way up without so much weight. It's off of the AT far enough that you might have it all to yourselves. Easy overnight...

INGO Motorcylists: Anyone else have cabin fever?

Cabin fever/motorcycle fever--whatever you call it got to me pretty bad on Sunday. So, I got out braved the still snow/ice/slushy driveway and rode a ~50 miles. Stopped in Bradis' to have a look around just before closing time. Gotta love that they're open on Sunday. :rockwoot: Driveway...

Mitch Daniels in WSJ Health Care Article

I agree with you that his was a very honest and level-headed analysis of ObamaCare. And you're right, we could do a LOT worse than Mitch but he might not be THE most electable candidate on a national stage.

      DPx Hostile Environment Survival Tools

Just figured out this was all about "The" Robert Young Pelton. Sounds like his notoriety kinda went to his head a little--OK, a lot!! A journalist/author turned knife maker. Hmmm....

      Entrenching tool

These Cold Steel shovels which copied the design of the Spetsnaz are incredible! Where did you find one for $15?

      Entrenching tool

Avalanche shovels with a collapsible handle are good for moving larger volumes of snow, are light weight and store rather compactly.

What have you done this week to prep?

Did the same thing! We were under 50%. Called the gas company this am and they said the phone wouldn't stop ringing there. She put us on the schedule, but didn't make any promises. The guy showed up around 5pm and we got filled. He said he usually fills about 10 tanks/day. Today he filled 60...
