I really like the 6.8mm SPC, and have used mine to take deer, but either would serve you well I think depending on what you consider long range. My understanding is that the 6.5 G has better BC bullets, and will start outperforming the 6.8 at longer ranges.
In your case I would just evaluate...
Anybody have one of these and care to provide any feedback?
I like the idea of a piston driven AR, but have concerns about proprietary replacement parts, as well as the cost of the upper ($830 for the 10.5" version). If it were $400-500, it wouldn't be too bad, but currently is a little more...
I would use AllenM. He hasn't done a barrel for me, so I don't know what he charges, but he custom built a 1911 for me and did a great job. ZR Tactical charged me $125 (if I'm remembering correctly) to cut and butcher the threads on my CZ Scorpion barrel. I will never use them again for anything.
I would be happy, and concerned at the same time. I may be preaching to the choir, but not understanding the basics of the firearm one just purchased implies a certain level of disregard for what it is, a dangerous weapon. Maybe that is not the case with your coworker and her husband... at...
Not Thanksgiving, but Christmas after the Sandy Hook murders my brother essentially accused me of being complicit because I own AR-15's. The argument didn't last long, and basically ended with us agreeing that we weren't going to change each others minds. We still talk, but it is very...
Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander in 10mm Auto. I did find a used one some years ago at the Indy 1500 for $1000, but didn't buy it.
I scratched the itch though and had Allen M build me one that I am very happy with.
Well, do you still have your hands?
I've never tried 800X, but it looks like you can wring a lot out of it. I like Accurate #9, but I think it tops out around 1400 fps with a 155 gr. XTP.
I wouldn't feel comfortable using someone's handloads, except for my buddy or father-in-law. You could try selling them and whoever buys them can use them at their own risk (not saying there is an issue with your loading), or pull the bullets and dump the powder themselves to reuse the brass.
