I was using one with a sewn in magnet in one corner. Was taking apart a bolt when a decent and ball slipped out - who knows where. The wife came in when she heard me cursing. 15 mins later I found the detent bearing sitting right on top of that magnet. I like them!
My oldest (proper person) wants to borrow my 870 for a quail hunt in Texas. I’m a Hoosier. I understand I can ship directly to his local FFL. Is that it? Any specific carrier? Overnight? Where can I find this info?
+1 for everything mentioned above. If your safe does not have one already, add a GoldenRod or similar dehumidifier. AC power inside also allows lights to be installed. I've switched the original manual/flourescent lights in mine over to motion-detected LEDs - BIG improvement!
Before goimg the relining/replacement rouite, I'd gove that ol' bore a GOOD scrubbing. Talke your time and bronze brush all of trhe rust out, then season it with Ballistol. You might find it shoots fine as it is. I hatre to see heirlooms be thrown aside. This "neglect' only adds to the gun's...
I have a Rossi 92 in .44-40 (44 WCF). I've shot it the past 10 years in Cowboy Action matches, loaded with Goex black powder and 200gn lead bullets. It shoots like a champ. I did get mine slicked up to eliminate the roughness. Many Youtube videos on how to do this.
Good shootin'
I justy sadly read that Mark Whyte (Springfield Slim) is getting out of the casting/sales business of his Big Lube bullets. I load 45 Colt and 44-40 WCF cartridges with blackpowder.
Anyone know of a source for pre-lubed .45 and 44-40 cast bullets? I'm too old and lazy to start casting my own.
What you have is more commonly know as an M1 Garand. there are thousands of experts, and volumes of information online. Get a box of 30-06 (made for the Garand, as modern ammo can bend the op rod) and some enbloc clips and see how she shoots!
Good shootin!
Ballistol is your friend. Clean your guns as soon as possible, or spray them down with Ballistol to prevent rust. I shoot 1873 revolvers with BP. I squirt Ballistol on the hand/pawl and insides. Clean the rest as good as I can. Over the winter, I tear the guns apart for a complete cleaning...
Cowboy Up! Nice rig, Leadeye!
I shoot a pair of 1873 revolvers and 1892 lever action at our local Cowboy matches. 45 Colt & .44-40 respectively, both cartridges filled to the brim with Goex ffG Black Powder.
YeeHaw!
