Singer Toby Keith dead at 62

Sad news for sure. He was my first country music concert I went to back around 2004 or so I can’t remember. It was at Elliot Hall at Purdue University. My little boy is always singing his Should’ve been a Cowboy song and we say that phrase often around our house. RIP Toby Keith.

How do you practice with your broadheads?

I’m glad to hear you are taking the time to practice with your broadheads. I work with 2 guys who both shot under deer this year with Rages because they said the pack said flies like field points and did not practice. I use an old deer target for broadheads. If I was just starting out like you I...

What caliber do you use for deer hunting?

The last few years I’ve primarily used a 6.5 Grendel 123gr Hornady SST. I’ve taken 6 deer with the furthest being 250 yards. Pretty happy with the round and it’s also my groundhog choice.

      6.5CM

I use the same 143 elds in my 6.5. I’ve shot deer with them from 30 yards to 300. They perform very well imo and I recommend them. Deer that I’ve shot have either dropped straight down or have only ran 30 yards or so.

      2023 Deer Season

I haven’t been seeing much deer movement either the last couple sets. I shifted gears this morning and turkey hunted for the first day of fall firearm season. I saw a 5 fly off the roost and an 1 1/2 or so later I seen them about 75 yards through the woods. I gave them a few yelps and they bee...

      Subaru Outback thoughts Impressions?

Not an Outback but my wife had a Legacy and the head gaskets blew on it around 75,000 miles or so. My brother is a mechanic and said he has replaced a bunch of head gaskets on Subarus in general. Then the motor went out around 230,000. It always used oil from day 1 and we bought it new. No more...

      NYC Trip

9/11 Museum is definitely worth seeing. You could take a ferry trip out to the Statue of Liberty and they stop at Ellis Island also if you have not done that. Hometown BBQ and Morgan’s BBQ are great places to eat.

      2023 turkey season

Called this one in around 2:20 this afternoon. 15 yard shot or so. Browning Maxus 8.5 shot Apex Ninja TSS. I also had a bobcat come by within 10 yards of me. I’m guessing it heard my calls.

1 year old dead of gunshot wound in Lafayette

Not sure either. I grew up real close to there on Elston Rd before the state bought our house for the new 231. Lafayette used to be a pretty decent town back then but not so much anymore. Probably like many other towns I recon.

What gun stuff did you buy today?

Set of Hogue grips, S&W key hole delete plug, and a moon clip unloading tool. All for the S&W 610 I picked up last weekend.

      Fishing rod repair

I would give St Croix a call. I’ve dealt with them in the past over similar issues and the rod was either fixed or replaced for free. I’ve had friends do the same thing that where not the original owners of the rods or no receipt and it didn’t matter even on broken rods too. A good company that...
