      Raging judge magnum

Generally, any caliber will perform better in a (reasonably) longer barrel. The length affects magnums (e.g. .454 Casull) more than standard calibers (e.g. 45Colt). Going from 6 inches to a 3 inch barrel will affect the .454 more than the .45, but a 3 inch .454 will still be more powerful and...

      Raging judge magnum

I have a Freedom Arms 454 Casull and it is an impressive cartridge. I also have a Taurus Judge and I think Taurus provides a good value. It's not as nicely tooled as the Freedom Arms, and the action isn't as smooth and crisp, but it's not as expensive either. You will lose some of the 454...

Poll: Which high caliber pistol to buy?

A Wildey. A gas operated rotating bolt for strength. A fixed barrel for accuracy. Interchangeable barrels for versatility. (An 8 inch .45 Win Mag for plinking and a 14 inch .475 Wildey Mag for business.) Stainless to withstand the elements. As much fun as you could want without going full auto...

      Taurus Judge

No, it was just plain ol' 000 buck. When I tried it, I don't think Winchester had the new self defense ammo available yet. And, as you haven noted, I still don't think they are available. Maybe in July. More companies coming out with ammo specifically designed for the Judge. So little time...

      Taurus Judge

Paraklese makes ammo for the Judge also. As far as I know, they are the only source of 0000 buckshot. I tried some of the Winchester buckshot and was not impressed. It was a very open pattern. I've read that both Paraklese and Federal use harder lead so it doesn't deform as much and groups...

      Taurus Judge

I don't know what part of the state you're in, but most places are getting decent weather. I'm still waiting for your comparison test of the 3 inch barrel vs the 6 inch barrel. Does the additional 3 inches of barrel tighten the pattern, or does the additional 3 inches of rifling open the...

      Taurus Judge

.410 slugs would be more common, but you should be able to shoot any size slug up to .452 with the proper wad or sabot. Buy why bother? Just load .45 Colt. A wide range of shapes and sizes, 160 grains to 225 grains, in cast, swaged, or jacketed. Even available in plastic.

      Taurus Judge

Somewhat disappointed. I didn't get mine for goose hunting and didn't expect it to shoot like a full choke shotgun. The pattern is probably good for home defense at 2 or 3 yards, although I would use the .45 colt for that. I was hoping to be able to shoot hand thrown clays. I haven't tried...

      Taurus Judge

I have the 3 inch chamber, 3 inch barrel your uncle got. It is definitely a short range weapon with shot shells. I haven't tried shooting .45 Colt yet. I expect it to shoot as well as any other .45 Colt, but I got it for the capability to shoot .410. My question for you, and your uncle, is...

      .45 HD gun

Try a Springfield XD. I think it has a smaller grip than the Glock. If it fits you, you have the 13 round magazine you want. It is also single action like the 1911.

      New style of belt

Check out Wilderness Tactical Products. Their belts are infinitely adjustable, come in a range of sizes, and are stiff to provide good support for a holster. they even make a "Frequent Flyer" version with a nonmetallic buckle so you can wear your pants in an airport.

      Corn cob media

You can't find corncobs around Lafayette? You're surrounded by corn fields! Just tell one of the locals you would like to gather a few bags of cobs out of his field. Wait until your wife goes shopping and throw some in the margarita blender until you get the size you want. Make sure you...

      Powder storage

You might want to separate your powder so if one can does ignite for some strange reason it will not start the other containers. Primers are explosive so they are worth some consideration also. Most of us don't have a big enough house and enough safes or vaults to isolate storage areas the way...

      Rainier TCJ Bullets?

I bought a few thousand .45 bullets to reload practice ammo. The were the least expensive "jacketed" bullets I could find at the time. Ranier tells their customers to keep the velocity down. If you load to midrange like others have already written, there should be no problem. At mid or low...
