Bid on several but they went sky high. Took a chance and made an offer to one of the sellers and he took it. Still wasn't cheap by any means, it is the most expensive part of the project.
To be honest, I was not looking for exact accuracy with the sling swivel. I searched on the 1928 Thompson and found the stamped one. I know I will need to inlet it and that should not be difficult. Got some small sharp wood chisels and the ubiquitous Dremel tool.
It was a stroke of luck I...
I will post a pic or two next week once it is finished. I did stain the stock a little to darken it to match the forend a little better. After I beat up the sling and get the swivel and butt plate installed, it will be about as complete as it is going to be. I will have to shoot it a few times...
Found an old Stevens 520A at the Louisville gun show a few months ago. My son noticed the guy walking around with it and he only wanted $100 so I gladly gave him that. It had a long barrel with the adjustable choke and a cracked loose buttock with no butt plate. Very worn with a great old...
Poor guy did nothing wrong except move to a free state before starting his hobby. I hope this gets appealed, but as someone said earlier, the process itself is the punishment. I cannot imagine how far in debt he will be once it is done.
Got my old Stevens 520A together with heatshield aged and fitted to the cut down barrel. Just need a butt plate for the stock. It was cracked but I injected wood glue in the cracks and clamped it. Should hold together just fine. The glue is probably stronger than the near 100 year old wood.
My boss in California has an Arken EP-4 on his Tikka 223 and an EP-5 on his 6.5 Creedmore. With handloads, they put five shots through the same hole at 100 yards (the only range within a close drive from his place). From what I saw when I was shooting, the image was perfectly clear and the scope...
This is a pic of my best group of the day. Five shots at 100 yards and pretty calm day in the foothills of San Jose.
Boss has me talked into building a precision setup now. He is even selling me one of his Arken EP-4 scopes at a substantial discount so he can upgrade to the EP-5.
I have to...
I have been shooting with my boss in California, his Tikka in 6.5 puts five rounds in a single ragged hole at 100 yards with his handloads. My best group was a fraction of an inch smaller than his that day so he got to buy the margaritas for lunch.
He has me convinced to build up a one hole...
