    3 different .22LR pistols today.
    I picked up a Ruger SR22 here b/c it has a hammer
    &
I'd never had that model before
    &
Zackcz had a couple of Ruger Mark 3s he'd picked up recently that he let me try out.

    SR22 on 1.75" cir. @21'
(looks like I forgot how to spell Armscor, haha!)
    Range 06.26.2023 2nd page using 3 brands ammo.jpg

    SR22
    Using CCI Mini-Mags rows 1-3 @21'
4th/last row w/Aguila Super Extra at only 15'.
Looks like this is a 15' gun, haha!
1/190 rounds w/4 ammo brands with 1 FTLoad with Federal AutoMatch.
I knew this gun wasn't going to be a keeper (not a consistent shooter for accuracy at 21')
I could keep it for another 15' gun, but I've already got 2 for that:
    - Bersa Thunder 22 (all metal w/hammer)
    - Beretta Bobcat tip-up barrel
Range 06.26.2023 full page using CCI Mini Mags.jpg

    Ruger Mark 3 w/adjustable sights
Federal AutoMatch @21' on 1.75" circles

    Ruger Mark 3 fixed sights.

Testing out some of my better ammo on the Hi-Standard Victor on my 4th range visit with it.
    Iron sights w/no optic.
5 rds per 1.75" circle; 20 rounds per line.
Those brands getting 100%/row are in bold: 3 brands did so today.

Ammo brands 1-4 on this page:
    - AWS Super Pistol 250 40 gr SLN
    (90% w/1 stovepipe)
    - Wolf Performance (discovered this box had 4-5 different brands of ammo, some HP & some solid points, some with a different cone shape & etc.: whoever sold it to me "made a mistake."

    - Eley Standard SLN (no failures)
    (95% w/0 failures)
    - Federal Premium Target Gold Medal 40 gr, SLN (x5 failure of slide to close completely & 1 FTFire) (95% w/5 slide not close completely & I did manually & 1 FTFire w/no strike on rim??)

Great time at range with SW 17-2 bought from the Classifieds just this am.
SW 17-2, I think is from the 1970s?
A 17-4 I bought from Snorko awhile back was from early 1980s.
The member I bought it from I've dealt with before & he bought the gun from a member that I've bought/sold from a few times.
Great confidence in no surprises/disappointments, dealing with solid members.
I only had 2 revolvers, now 3 with this 17-2.
The 17-2 is strictly for short term fun & will be trimmed in the future when another gun demands attention.

This 17-2 is a shooter & not a collector item like the 17-4 that didn't even have a turn line when I bought it.
I like buying shooters with normal wear b/c that is reflected in price.

Row 1 & 2 with the 17-2, I adjusted sights & improved a little, acclimating to the gun.
Row 3 & 4 the Dan Wesson (my all time best revolver) to compare it with.
I didn't get 100% today, which the DW has done in the past.

    Dan Wesson 8" 54 oz
I think I'll repaint the rear sight green instead of white.
Since I like a 3 dot white system, it gave me the idea.
Not one of my smarter ones, haha!
Since red front & green rear fiber optic combination works wonderful on a couple of guns I have, like a SW & Rough Rider I'll got, I'll try that before I black out like it started, haha!

The S&W shows good honest wear that has given many years of shooting happiness.
    I thought so!
But, it was not as accurate as I thought it should be, so that was disappointing.
    The magnificent 17-4,
was a good competitor with the Dan Wesson,
but it could not keep up with the DW either, which is why I sold it since I had so much $$$ tied up in it.
Below are range pics with the 17-4 vs the Dan Wesson: better than I remember on these targets, but not so much on the 1.75" circles I usually use.
If I remember, the Dan Wesson needed cleaning.
The 17–2 will follow suit & I will shoot it more to see if I can catch up.
At least move up from the 70%-ish
    &
try to get closer to the 90%-ish.
I'll use different targets with the 17-2 like I did with the 17-4.

The only reason I have not picked up a Smith 17 to round out my 22 pistol collection is not being able to see the sights well enough to realize the accuracy. The 17 is Smith's classic 22 target revolver. I did pick up a poor man's 17 some years ago - Taurus 17 , shoots quite well and was able to later mount a red dot optics base for a Burris Fastfire 3. I wish the SA trigger was as crisp as my Smith and Wessons. I do have a pair of Smith 617s with optics.

I have an earlier Model 617. How do I tell if I can mount an optic on it?

I hear you about the black iron sights, part of my problem, I'm sure.
I'm going to repaint the front red & maybe put green on the rear, a combination that works well with my eyes.
I too, had a big Taurus & the big GP100 versions, but didn't have the SW 17 (or 617), so I was glad to get the 17-4 from Snorko that was pristine: should have kept it.
Another weakness of my selling guns to try out more guns: you wake up & have learned that you should have kept one or two or a dozen long term (keepers, I call them).

Since this one is definitely shooter-grade, it will be easier to justify keeping it, the 17-4 was just to nice to turn into a shooter & bring the value down 15%!
I got carried away, haha! :ugh: It happens!

If this 17-2 will keep up with the Dan Wesson like the 17-4 did, I'll keep it for awhile since I love to have guns of the same genre to do so.
" a pair of Smith 617s with optics" !!!!! :wow:  :rockwoot:
    I am envious!!!

A member wanted to trade me this Sig 322 for a smaller .22LR pistol I was selling b/c the 322 was too big for his hands.
I had shot this 322 & posted range pics last April & May when Zackcz owned it.
Since I prefer heavier metal guns, I knew I wouldn't hold onto it.
I do like to shooting different guns & have bought/sold the same model of a guns many times, just for fun.

I did enjoy putting 120 rds through it today, spending most of my time adjusting the rear sights to my liking.
Love the fiber optics front & rear.

1st shots & started to adjust elevation, then windage.
    5 rds per 1.75" circles.

After getting both elevation & windage lined up I used this target.
5 rds in each "card" using Federal AutoMatch.
I could have shot more, but I was getting bored with it! :dunno:

I knew this gun is accurate enough to keep if I enjoyed it.

Put 48 rds through the SW 17-2 again today.

The grips are too small to suit me. :wallbash:
I thought I could work around it, but it kept bugging me. :dunno:
I was used to the Target grips that came with the 17-4 I had previously, which must have been a tad larger b/c it suited me fine.
I don't want invest $100 in buying grips with shipping & tax, making it harder to sell when I'm done having my fun with it. :spend:
I might pretty it up a bit using some Flitz gun polish a member recommended to me before I sell it.
I do want to put different brands of ammo through it to see if I can improve the accuracy.
    It's worked before,

I did paint the front sight green, to see if my eyes would like it better,
but the results were the same. :fogey:
Pic of painted front green sight.jpg

Despite my lackluster performance, at least I had 6/6 rds on 3 of the 8 1.75"circles.
    Forgot to label 1st row/DA & 2nd row/SA.
A little tighter groups in S/A mode.

If you are going to use Flitz on a Blued gun, go very easy with it. Use your finger or a soft cloth with light pressure.
    Appreciate the heads up!
Just an easy wiping over on the smooth spots
    &
    then using a toothbrush:
    - on the top of the barrel where the sight "ridge" is "lined"
    - hammer spur
    - cylinder release
    &
any other "textured" surface to get the dingy baked in dirt that's been accumulating for decades.

    Hogue monogrip.
I'll look it up & order it.
I didn't want to spend too much, but I can handle $30, haha!

Last night, the Hogue mongrip didn't come up when I was doing a search for the SW 17-2.
I've gotten that for several guns in the past.

Picked up a Ruger Charger in a trade.
Great profile: original owner buying it December 2022 & didn't have enough time to run many rounds through.
Zackcz had gotten hold of it & put 150 +/- rds through it before we traded.

I've had a couple of Chargers in the past but did not enjoy them enough to keep one.
That changed today, & I had soooo much fun. :rockwoot:
They always were accurate, but with its bipod, I compared them to a rifle, so why not just use a rifle?!
Now that I have another 10" pistol (Browning Buckmark Silhouette Target) that is very accurate, I'm thinking of this as a pistol & enjoyed it as such. :D
I don't remember ever getting as many "cloverleafs" as I did today, which could put the Charger at the head of the class.

Used a red dot today, but it's hard to see bullseye at 30' & nearly impossible at 45', having to use
"the force" to ascertain said bullseye. :lmfao:
I have a handgun scope to put on it, & might try that for longer distances for fun.

Only used Federal AutoMatch ammo today that Zackcz had recommended to me awhile back.
Used this Silhouette to dial in the Bushnell red dot (not the Romeo-MSR that I labelled).
Started at 21', moved up to 30', then 45', dialing in the red dot the entire time.
I dialed it in at 30', like my other optic-bearing pistols.
Range 07.07.2023 Practice Silhouette & dialing in Romeo MSR red dot AMTCH ammo.jpg

This was really 30' (below), but I mistakenly labelled it 21'. :ugh:
    1.75" circles w/Fed Auto Match!
I got some "cloverleafs," rare for me. :rockwoot:
    Range 07.07.2023 1.75in circles @ 30ft AMTCH ammo.jpg

It was shooting so well at 30', that I wanted to try this target.

Nice shooting! I have a 10" KIDD barrel Charger that is pretty accurate , although I have shot better with my 10" TC match . I should take them both to the range to go head to head!

    You certainly should!
"Head to head" shooting between a couple of guns is my favorite thing to do. :rockwoot:
Sometimes it's to eliminate the "weaker" gun so I can have $$ to move on to something different
    &
sometimes it is just for the sheer joy of it. :ar15:
