Every time the word "classifieds" shows in a thread title the first thing that comes to mind is 'here we go again. Fortunately, if didn't turn out to be another noob rant and I agree that older Smiths are hard to come by and are extremely pricey when you do come across them.

I think the WTB add is a great way to go. Besides the fact you'll never know what you'll see, a lot of folks need to be rattled around to remember that safe queen that they could part with.

Our classifieds could use a bump to get more participation. Top of the "new posts" and "alerts" with WTB adds might really help to get eyes on the classy's overall. I know it would mine.

While I enjoy watching the classified adds, I'm not actively shopping for anything right now. That said, throw up a WTB add for something collecting dust around here, we can likely make a deal.

I am always shocked to to read threads with INGOers posting that they tried to sell something and it turns out it wasn't in our own classifieds.:dunno:

I would say people get the gun of the day according to what is written in gun magazines or the internet then decide it isn't all it was cracked up to be or just not for them then want to sell it. People also see the value in many of the old ones and hang on to them.

WTB ad’s are great. I’ve picked up a few that were exactly what I was looking for.
However! One must be cautious as well. WTB ad’s also attract flys and “glow boys”.
I put out a wtb ad and immediately got a nibble… something was off and didn’t feel right.
Long story short I told one to pound sand and the other I just stopped engaging with when he let his real intentions slip.

Is this a story you've posted here before or one that you're willing to post more details about? I'm intrigued by what exactly it was that set your Spidey-senses tingling.

You are not the only one that thinks that way. :):

In 2004 I sold my gun collection to finance 3 more years of education. Some of the stuff I had owned for 25 or more years. I was amazed at how much people were willing to pay because the market had gone up so much. Almost everything was close to twice what I had paid. I figured some of my friends were willing to pay top price because they wanted to bless me on my next path.

In 2015 I was in position to start replacing some of the collection. I was paying 2 to 3 times to replace it, and having to search high and low for what was easy to find a decade earlier
