With the current climate of the world, and the tragedy in TN, along with all the other school shootings, if
you were to witness an individual shoot the glass out of a door before entering a school,
would you say to hell with the law and any consequences, and enter the school with your firearm in hopes to stop the potential threat?
Or would you play it safe and sit by while calling 911?

I haven't been and hope never to be faced with the situation but I don't believe I would hesitate if I witnessed what you described. My thoughts are I would 911 and then carefully engage the threat. I would have difficulty living with myself if I did anything else but YYMV.. I'm sure some have more to lose that I do and that would have to factor into any decision. I think current world conditions would dictate that it's something everyone should consider because it seems to be more likely with every passing day.

I would worry about back stop. I would also want to be sure there's ill intent, not a drill or something. I may also take rounds and expire, but prefer not to. I wouldn't hesitate to put rounds in a school shooter.
I would also not donate my gun to IMPD property room, because I would lose it in the fog.

If they are doing a drill that even simulated shooting out glass somebody needs fired.

And if it was a drill, and you shot a police officer acting as a simulated attacker doing that over the top entry, I sure as hell would not convict you if I were on the jury.

And I would hope that I had the confidence to try. Because I would have a hard time living with myself, if I did nothing.P but I too have no idea whether I could or not.

    Doubtful.

We have SROs (the FAFO twins) in both buildings on campus and our preschool is next door to our PD. But I'd be on the phone with dispatch to give them additional real-time intel so they have a better start to their mission when they arrive to back up our SRO personnel.

But if I had a shot, I'd take it.

As a school board member, I've attended active shooter drills with LE present at a couple of schools in the area, training to locate and neutralize an active shooter. It was difficult to suppress a trained instinct to react to fire and maneuver toward the "threat". The only difference between training and real world is one uses blanks and the other uses live rounds. The reactions from school staff and teachers who are also training for their part in these scenarios is wrenching. None of them signed up for working in a combat zone but they must know how to react and implement safety plans.

I can't imagine a scenario where I happen to be going by a school and see someone shooting in the glass, other than at pickup or dropoff time at my kid's school. If my kid is inside I am likely going in.

    If not, then probably not.

I have no idea if there is a school resource officer (SRO) or other armed defender in the school already. Who's to say I don't follow the killer in, gun at the low ready, just as they are confronted and put down by an SRO. Then the SRO assumes I am a second shooter or trailing accomplice? Then I get smoked.

I may position my vehicle outside of an entry point if possible and post up behind the engine block just in case the killer comes out before police get there and I have a shot. But my responsibility is to my family. I'm not likely to force myself into a gunfight I don't need to be in.

Now if I find myself in the middle of one, or my family is in danger, that's another story.

It's hard to actually answer something like this.
Doing what you say and saying what you would've done are always what usally happens. You just don't know until you are put in such a situation. For police and SPTs, they train and train for such things, so it becomes 2nd nature to them without having to think what to do.

I wait outside my grandsons school for over an hour when I pick him up. To say I haven't run through numerous, "what if" situations would be a lie.

Of course I would try to stop it. **** the politics. Of course it's not a city school so I know there are other people in other vehicles that would also go towards the sounds of the guns vs sitting still and having to live with the guilt of not doing anything while children died. Yeah, **** that. Been running to that sound for years but now it would be with a personal purpose.

Too many variables to consider , but I would be hesitant because of possibly being mistaken for the actual Bad Guy ?
If there were a SRO on site ( how would you know ) he could even think you could be shooter # 2 ?

    Transbo=Tranny who thinks it's Rambo.
Ah. I've been busy all day, so I haven't seen details about the shooter till now.

FTR, I'm going to be squarely in line with INGO about what we really think the cause of this is; and it certainly isn't the guns' fault. It's not a gun culture problem.

Also, FTR, I don't what the shooter looks like - "transbo", or wearing a MAGA hat and a III% T shirt, my response is going to be the same.
