It’s just one of my things I use to take a break from the real world. Plus I’m really good at analyzing odds and picking well.
I started out with $100 18 months ago and have made thousands. Enough to have the inner discussion about moderation and discipline. It’s is really tempting to bet big money and try to make serious money off it, but that’s a dangerous road. So my deal is once the money is gone, I’m done, no re-ups. Gambling is a serious thing and can destroy lives, I refuse to allow it to be anything besides a CHEAP hobby.

My dad did a similar thing with the Chicago board of trade, except for drawing the line in the sand on when to quit.
He would have a big bill coming due with no way to foreseeably pay it, do some analysis, and take a position on CBOT. He’d bring in 30 or 50k in a few months.
Right before he passed away we were talking about that and he told me that while that happened and he brought in hundreds of thousands, he lost more than he made in the long run.
It can be great if you are just the right amount of emotionally unattached.

Trying to catch up in here a little bit, miss a few days or so and you fall way behind.

Sorry to hear about your father passing, Wingrider.

Tore my mill down the other night. I needed to replace some missing plates/covers that keep debris from falling down onto the y-axis lead screw and gears for the knee. Found some bearings that were complete toast, borderline seized. Thankfully new Timken bearings were readily available and inexpensive. Also discovered whomever had this apart before put the table on backwards. Going back together this morning with new bearings and full cleaning along the way. Also installing an aftermarket power feed for the x-axis.

I only bet on a sure thing. And there ain’t no such thing as a sure thing!

I started out with $100 shotgun 35 years ago and have since spent thousands. Not enough to listen to my wife discuss moderation and discipline even though it is really tempting to spend big money and try to get serious firearms even though that’s how I fill the safe. So my deal is once all the guns are bought, I’m done, no more. Firearm collecting is a serious thing and can enhance lives, I refuse to tell the Mrs. it is anything other than a CHEAP hobby.
