Anybody own one of these? I would be interested to hear some real world opinions. Trying to find one but they seem to be unobtainable right now. I would like the ability to use my 10/22 mags in a threaded barrel bolt gun. I know other choices are out there but I am curious about the Ruger.

Don't own one but looked at them a couple of years ago. Basically a standard American Rimfire in a fancy stock, nothing target grade about the action or barrel. Accuracy results of the people who own them over at Rimfire Central confirm there is nothing special about them, just a more costly version of the RAR.

Hmmm... I was under the impression that the barrel was different. Guess I need to do more research.

I believe the rimfire target does have a heavier barrel. The stock is a nicer laminate. How much more accuracy that gives you over the rimfire is up for debate, but the stock is much nicer.

I went back and forth a long time for multiple visits holding one at my LGS. It was a really nice grey laminate stock with a threaded barrel.

In the end I decided that my 10/22 was as accurate as I was and elected not to get it. If you shot super accurate matches or rimfire competitions I could see where you might want it. I've shot casual matches against guys with a lot nicer setups and have essentially shot as good as they did with my 10/22. For the money you could do what I did. Upgrade the barrel to a bull barrel, upgrade the stock, upgrade the trigger to a BX trigger.

But I also like the concept of multiple platforms with the same mags. That was why I almost decided to get it anyway.

I have a 10/22 that I "built". Almost everything on it is aftermarket short of the receiver. Trigger, barrel, stock, etc., etc. I don't really need the bolt gun. My 10/22 shoots better than I can. I just love the bolt gun vibe.

If the action and barrel is the same as the standard RAR , I would not expect anything fantastic. I bought a compact for my son to shoot base class NRL matches and my older 10-22 will out shoot the RAR compact.

I looked at one before I bought my CZ 455. I personally think it's a beautiful little rifle, but the lackluster reviews on it's accuracy (no better than a standard rifle) kept me from buying it.

It is heavier than the normal RAR but internally it is exactly the same- sporter chamber and bore. That was one of the big dings on it. Put on a fancier stock and heavy barrel but nothing that would actually improve accuracy and slap a target moniker on it and charge extra for it.

The RAR in 22WMR is/can be a tack driver with the correct ammo. For a hunting rifle, it's all you will need for a varmit or pest elimination device. I prefer a bolt action to an automatic.

I agree, the WMR version is very good, but the LR versions are at best average. I've had 4 total and have sold all of them, the only one I would have considered keeping was the WMR.

The barrel is different, but the chamber and bolt are the same. That leads to basically the same accuracy. There are people who have recut the chambers and it can lead to some impressive accuracy, but it's a significant added cost.
