    Hey guys,

I have never owned a 1911 pistol and am looking to get one but don’t want to break the budget. What are the best affordable options for a good 1911 out there?

My nephew bought one of these and I oiled it up and we ran around 300rds through it right out of the box.
I was surprised at how well made it is for the price.
Forged frame and slide, and a nice finish all for under $360

How much are you wanting to spend this is at the low side.

Youll probably need to be a little more specific on your price range to get the best suggestions. 1911s can run from a few hundred to a few thousand.

Personally, the Springfield Garrison is easily the best factory 1911 I’ve purchased at its price point ($750, give or take). I love 1911s but I’m also very critical of the platform considering the issues I’ve had with them in the past. Of the ones I own/have owned, Id put the Garrison at #2. Number 1 is a Colt Series 70 with a complete overhaul by AllenM and the parts/labor alone cost more than the Garrison.

It depends on what you want to do with it. If you just want a plain-jane 1911A1 to plink with, I'd recommend the Tisas/SDS. I picked one up as a lark a couple of years ago, and it's been problem-free. For under $350 new, it's hard to beat.

If you are going to put a few rounds through it and toss it in a safe, buy cheap.

If you are actually going to consistently shoot it, spend a little bit and get something that won't frustrate you.

I agree with Big Red; look at the Springfield Garrison. If I didn't own a Range Officer, I'd look closely at the Garrison.

I've gone both expensive [Wilson Combat] and cheaper [Kimber] and both have been fantastic.

I did have to do some fine tuning on the Kimber - mostly the extractor - but that was just because I'm picky.

Springfield loaded and an ATI Titan compact. I've also had a Colt 1991A1 Compact and a springfield Mil-spec. All were/are great guns and I'd but any of them again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the input. I will definitely look into the Garrison. I want something that is quality but doesn’t exceed $1,000. I know that can be hard at times but it seems like there are so many options with this model and wanted to get a few opinions

These are the current rage, and made well from everything I’ve seen. Rock islands are cheap and 70 series.

I’d say colt but they’re hard to find currently, ruger makes a good one for the price as well. But those are more than double what the first two cost.

Springfield is always a choice for most but their politics make me shy away.

As in most things in life, you get what you pay for. There are a few exceptions.
DO NOT BUY A CHEAP 1911!!!!

That $400 1911 will likely be an unreliable jam-o-matic and you'll spend just as much at a gunsmith to get it running right. So just pony up the $800+ for a reliable one.

Unless you just want a range toy. Then get whatever.

That’s not always true, in my experience I’ve had just as many bad Springfield’s as rock islands.

Do not hesitate to buy the Tisas 1911. I have bought three, and everyone of them shoots excellent. I have shot everything from 185gr SWC lead through 250gr RNFP plated in mine and they all function 100 percent. They also make a great starting point to build from. I was a small arms repairman for a few years in the Army and these are better than any of the 1911's I saw short of the Division Pistol Teams guns at Ft Campbell.

My nephews ran without any problems right out of the box with the cheap magazines they sent with it. At first I was going to bring down my Wilson Combat 1911 magazines, but my nephew wanted to see how it preformed with what they sent, and I don't blame him for that.
It ran just fine using Winchester white box 230gr fmj, and my 230gr Hardcast RN coated bullets which ran an avg 918fps. The Winchester 230gr avg was 810fps.
Ran 200 Winchester white box and 100 if my reloads. It ran fine.
