Just wondering picked um my new to me STI it has some holster wear, a scratch on the slide. So do you spend the money to have it refinished or just live with it. As far as I can tell it’s been shot minimally but perhaps carried often.

    thoughts?

Think of it as character marks.
My old model 44 has been through many hunts and was my carry revolver for years. It is scratched and has lost its luster over the years.
I was going to polish it up, but decided each scratch, and scuff had a story. I'll pass it down and I plan on writing a little information about how I came across it, why I bought it, where it's been, and how I used it for future generations.
I want to do that with each one I plan to pass on to the next generation.

If it's going to be shot regularly then wear n tear are normal. If it's going to carried its going to show wear and scratches and small dents n dings. If it's going to be a safe queen wrap it and only get it out to clean n oil then put it back in the safe.

I hate it when I get the first scratch or ding on a new car (or anything else). On the other hand once that’s out of the way, it’s kind of a relief. It’s not “new” anymore. ;)

If I buy something used, it is what it is. I don’t think I’d worry about it. Just enjoy it.

You gonna use it or did you just buy it to look at it?

I try not to mess up finishes but it's also just part of use. I wouldn't get anything refinished unless it was a show piece.

Get it refinished, so you can put the first new ding/ scratch in it. Then you will have understanding LOL

Honest wear/ use is one thing. Marks from an oops or kitchen table cleaning really can set off ones OCD.

Its why I dont refinish walnut stocks anymore. And prefer plastic. No matter how careful you are, stuff happens. In and out of gun safes.....hate the dang things.
