    Can't find it online yet.
Police at this high school have at least 3 kids in custody and questioning several more. 6 guns discovered so far. One of the kids in custody said he and the others were taking positions in different hallways and waiting for thr lunch bell to ring to start shooting.

Getting info from a coworker whose granddaughter goes here and is still inside the school.
Ahhh yes, because preliminary reports are always very accurate. By tomorrow it’ll probably be one kid with a toy gun

Anyone here use Amazon Alexa or Echo devices in their home? Looking to use some sort of 'smart' device to dim lights and other fun stuff. Just curious what your experiences are with these "smart devices" and if you find them useful, convenient, etc.

Not planning to replace my thermostat, alarm, etc. Just fun stuff like lights.

But the official report and what the kids are reporting are different. Kids say they saw at least 1 rifle and several sidearm. :dunno:

Apparently this is the 3rd time this school year that this school has had issues like this. :faint:

Yes, I use a few Echo Dots.

They are fun. They do weather forecasts, remember lists like shopping lists Menard's lists etc., reminders, alarms, notifications when Amazon packages arrive, questions of the day, tells jokes, etc., etc.
They also do lights and all sorts of stuff but you have to buy compatible accessories.

I do wonder a little if they are reporting what they hear to anybody. I know they are listening, that is what they do. They listen to everything full time but only respond to the keyword which defaults to "Alexa". You say something like "Alexa, you b****" and she says "Thanks for the feedback". There are a couple other choices for keywords in case you already have an Alexa in the house - that could get annoying.
I would think if they were reporting to anybody that somebody would have figured that out by now and the word would be out.
Nobody is going to learn a whole lot by listening to me that they don't already know.

Just ordered 2 Echo 8 units, they come with free Echo 5 Kids units. The "kids" settings on the Echo 5 units can be disabled, so I'll end up with 4 fully functioning Echos. Also ordered a bunch of light switches to automate the flood lights, etc around the house. And a dozen smart bulbs for things like dimming the living room so it is more romantic while watching the Hallmark channel.

I plan to wrap them in tin foil so they can't hear me :tinfoil:

I have smart lights with a Google Home Speaker and a Google Smart Hub. I can turn lights on/off/change brightness/color(also have the Nest Thermostat) by voice with those devices or through the Google Home app on my phone.

I also use smart security cameras that notify me when something moves so I can see what is going on when I am away and save the videos for evidence. They also have two-way talking so there is another potential government spying opportunity.

I already have a commercial grade camera system, but I'll be looking at adding a 2 way audio Alexa compatible door camera on top of the dedicated camera system, just for convenience.

FWIW, I ordered GE branded stuff. But the WYZE stuff looks good too. Considered the Roku operating system instead of Alexa because we already run Roku TVs but it is too proprietary. Alexa seems to be pretty universal. Ditto Google.
