I was off a little. I went back and triple checked.

Best they can do is move up to #8 if the Saints win tomorrow.
The Jags still play the Texans again so they could get another win.
The Broncos play the Cardinals, so one of them sure to get a win or they both match our tie.
The Panthers and Saints play each other, so same thing.
Broncos also play the Rams, and the Saints play the Falcons so potential wins there.

Assuming we can lose out we are guaranteed to move up a couple of spots, potential for several more.

The thing that amazes me is that the Rams are on track to get a top 3 pick one year after winning the SB. That is doing it right!

Going off-track and revisiting the Andrew Luck retirement, I just realized something. If he had retired in 2017 when he got hurt, we would have known that we needed a QB in the 2018 draft. We drafted Quinton Nelson in that draft to protect Luck, not knowing we would soon be needing a QB. The next player selected after Nelson was Josh Allen!

That was always my thing. The timing of the retirement was way worse than the retirement itself. Absolutely hosed the organization.

The problem came with Ballard insisting on not ever drafting a quarterback in the 1st round. His philosophy is not to take a quarterback high, but to try and build around an already established QB. He traded away a mid-level 1st round pick for DeForest Buckner too. He could’ve moved up for Justin Fields too but he wasn’t willing to give up the picks. That’s where the root of the problem is. Honestly wouldn’t surprise me at all if he doesn’t draft a quarterback this year either unless one falls in his lap. He’ll go after Derek Carr or Jimmy G or some other cast off.

    Detroit owns that pick.

This is the biggest fall off of a SB champ ever. It was all built on borrowed time, and that time now must be repaid.

Here are the Rams picks for 2023

    2023 NFL Draft

1st round - TRADED TO LIONS (Matthew Stafford)

    2nd round

    3rd round

4th round - TRADED TO PATRIOTS (Sony Michel)

5th round - TRADED TO BROWNS (Troy Hill)

    6th round

6th round - FROM PACKERS (Corey Bojorquez)

6th round - FROM TITANS (Robert Woods)

    7th round

This is why Ballard will be gone, other franchises got QB’s in his time, he did not get one for the Colts.

I don’t know. I’m like 50/50 on Irsay firing Ballard. Sure seems Ballard has him totally buying into his vision.
I think it's possible (50/50) Irsay will keep Ballard around and give him one more chance. In Ballard's defense, nobody expected the type of play we've all seen this year, nobody.
Now, I think if he fails to get a QB and do something about the O line, he will be gone in short order.

It’s just that same thing every year though.

“Nobody expected Luck to retire. Give Ballard a chance.”

“Nobody expected Rivers to retire after one season.”

“Nobody expected Carson Wentz to collapse at the end of the season. That’s on Reich not Ballard.”

“Nobody expected Matt Ryan to be so awful. Give Ballard another chance.”

He’s been here for what 6 years?

No division titles while playing in the worst division in football.

    1 wildcard playoff win.

An overall record of 41-40 not counting this season. So he’ll probably finish with a record of 46-51-1.

He’s never drafted a quarterback higher than a late 4th rounder.

The offensive line that he put together and payed more than any Oline in the league absolutely sucks.

He’s never drafted or payed a premier edge rusher.

He’s never used free agency to surround his quarterbacks with weapons.

His 100 million dollar linebacker can’t stay on the field because of injuries.

I just think we know who Chris Ballard is. He’s a good talent evaluator during the draft but he’s not good at roster construction.

It will be interesting when Matt Ryan's time with the Colts is done if someone comes forth with him being injured this whole time. If you look at his throwing mechanics this year and compare it to videos of him from several years ago the mechanics are very different. I think he's got an issue with his elbow, bicep or shoulder that is causing his throws to dive. That is also causing him to loft the long throws which sets him up for more interceptions. Its been that way all year.

    I 100% agree with you.
IMHO, from the outside looking in I think Irsay sometimes gives people too many chances because he really wants to believe in them. I think this shows not only with Ballard and Reich but also the last GM just as a couple examples.
Now, I really believe that if Jeff Saturday sits down with Irsay and says look Ballard just isn't getting the job done putting all the pieces together, then I think Irsay will replace Ballard.
Especially if he could pull off what I'd call the twofer. And that would be Saturday as GM and Harbaugh as Coach.
I really think the two of them could build a dang good team.

“Colts: During that podcast in the offseason with the dog on the couch next to him, Mayfield mentioned the Colts as a potential destination. The podcast was taped before the Colts landed Matt Ryan. On one hand, Jeff Saturday wants to do well enough to get the job. On the other hand, the Colts surely would like to put Ryan back in bubble wrap and avoid owing him another $17 million next year, if he can’t pass a physical by the middle of March. Also, it would be part of the broader quarterback evaluation for 2023.”
