I have been reinforcing my decision to never again fly in an airplane.

I hate flying commercial. Got spoiled from years of travel in KC-135s, C-141s, C-5s and the occasional C-130. My favorite is the KC-135. Lay out my air matress and sleeping bag, back by the boom pod and sleep all the way to our destination.

Anyone who cries about flying commercial sure as hell better stay out of the "X people are so soft these days" threads. But I might get bumped into... :runaway:

I'll have global entry once I do my interview upon my return from Portugal and that comes with pre-check as well. Get through security, sit in a lounge/restaurant and enjoy myself for a bit, get on a magical tube that flies me through the air and hundreds of miles per hours in relative comfort. Cattle car class does suck, but it's fine for short hops. Premium economy for long hauls, though, makes it much more comfy.

If I die, I die. I didn't plan to live forever anyway, I'd rather see the world and enjoy my time here.

C-17 ammo bird - lay on top of racks and get good sleep. Air Force MRE’s nice ride.

C130J - Sucks jammed in unbelievable drone 10 hours to get to the stain.

C-5 Luxury liner of the AF.

C-21 General Officer aircraft complete with a stewardess really. Best trip I have taken good food and drinks.

    Commercial - Lufthansa Hott stewardess!

Used to make 2-3 flights a year to Taipei for my work at Bell Labs.

Fastest flight IND->DTW->SEL (seoul korea) 17hrs nonstop about 22 hours total to Taiwan, longest trip 34hrs.

Business class, outbound flights nearly empty, got entire section to myself usually. Back to USA was always full.

    Those were the days.

I think the one time on C-141 was my favorite trip ever. Such a lean, badass looking bird. I was freezing to death, and the plane was leaking fluid all over my ruck. I went and told one of the crew about the leak, and I was introduced to the phrase "if it's leaking, it still has fluid, no problem. Let me know if it stops leaking".
    :lmfao:

I think I was coming back from Germany at the time, so I was ok with it, just to be away from Germany.

But....I would miss you. Even if we met only once and you wouldn't let me eat with you because of a "scheduling conflict "

Skipped the last 3 pages but

Ehh. Flew in the corps. Lost friends flying abroad and at home. Personally been in some hard landings and very bad situations. Logged 500 hours at the schoolhouse training pilots aircrew and testing aircraft. Hell I've even had a last cig before take off.

Commercial is gross, but it gets the job done. At least it's not 18-20 year Olds maintaining the birds with armchair supervision.

Poison is in the dose.. :D Hit me up sometime after the 1st of the year and we'll grab gyros. Assuming I don't die in a horrific fireball between now and then.

Even first class on a commercial flight is like taking the city bus, fully packed, around town, for 4 hours in the blazing sun.
Maybe on the tiny regionals, but not on anything bigger. This was me, last week, flying to Dublin. I don't always get upgraded to business class on international flights, but it sure makes a difference when I do.

    Add the extra engine noise.
...noise-canceling headphones are a requirement on any public transport.

People bumping into you or laying on you.
Agree with you on this one. Interpersonal etiquette is, unfortunately, nonexistent.

Waiting at the bus stop to board after being molested by a security guard.
If you fly more than once a year, get TSA PreCheck. (And Global Entry if you fly internationally.)

Dropped off at a bus stop 3 blocks from home and having to gather with other unfortunate passengers while they sort through piles of luggage, just to find yours.
This is why I carry on, 99% of the time.

Forget the small chance of death on a flight. It's the rest of the unpleasantries that make flying something I only do when absolutely required. I'd rather be beat with a willow switch.
To each, their own, I suppose.

I will put you donwn as comfortable being herded like cattle, ran through chutes like cattle, being stalled like cattle. Has nothing to to do with “soft”. Most of us here were born and raised with lots of personal space, I cannot think of much of anything I have done that my personal space is so violated.

Some are good with no personal space, I treasure it, but I can assure you, it is not soft…

These were on my last Lufthansa flight but not judging.

I fell for the TSA PreCheck shtick a few years ago, it resulted in being treated like a criminal on about 50% of my flights instead of all of them.
