So I am starting to do my research, from what I can tell Tennessee license to carry a Handgun has reciprocity in quite a few states. While some seem to denote residents only, which as far as I am aware Tennessee doe not offer non resident licenses.

From my understanding that there is no restrictions with regards to age? Our son who is now active duty is able to get his license at 18 under Tennessee law. so theoretically he should be good to go with states that have reciprocity with Tennessee ?

Some states do have age restrictions. FL and OH as an example.

Handgunlaw.us is an excellent source. Click on a state.
    And this.

@wcd there are huge differences State to State. Ohio: can't consume alcohol. Kentucky: can't enter a bar. Tennessee: signs have force of law. Alabama: geesh they got strange stuff. Florida: concealed carry only.

TN appears to be 21 yrs of age, unless active duty U.S. military (or honorably discharged), then it's 18 yrs. (TC 39-17-1307)

As mentioned above, your son is eligible for a TN license, which is then valid in TN. If he is underage, some of the states recognizing TN still will not recognize his license (although most will). Read each state's reciprocity law to see the details. Also, there are very big differences in carry state-by-state (even for states who recognize your license), and it's imperative to understand all the differences before carrying in a state.

If you're interested in the firearm laws while traveling, take a look at the CCW - Concealed Carry 50 State Guide for iPhone or for Android.

Yes we have done some more research and the states that he is likely to be in will honor his license.

while I do not need a license to carry lawfully I have always maintained the required permit or license for each state have resided in currently I hold two lifetime licenses. One for Indiana which I believe is dormant and would become active again should we ever reside in Indiana again, and Tennessee.
