Gee, I have had free lunches everywhere I ever worked. I bet you guys all have too. The meanie probably took out the pool table too…

The mill used to give us $3.25 for a 'meal allowance' if we had to work an unscheduled double shift.
The idea being, you couldn't pack a lunch, so you'd have someone run you a McDs.

Then the IRS came along, and TAXED IT.
    Of course.

I wonder if the IRS went after these free meals.

Most of the time I ever got a “free lunch” it wasn’t so free. it almost always came with a catch. Usually a mind numbing or infuriating (or both) catch.

Of course not, and Twitter wrote off the cost…

I think in this very thread there was a tiktok or some other video of a Twitter (Twit?) going through their day. If I remember correctly the free meals were restaurant quality meals cooked by a chef. They had smoothies, fresh fruit, pastries and other snacks also for free, available all day long. Also dinner if you stayed late enough. I want to say I've seen that other social media companies had the same, as well as gaming rooms, saunas, nap rooms and more. The fact that the company never made money and had all of this crap is pretty telling. Of course the employees are upset, they've been pampered for years.

Kinda sounds like the tech company version of keeping up with the Jones'?

I'm guessing though that Twitter doesn't have the same user data mining capability that their wanabe rival Facebook has. Less data mined, less advertisers.

That would be on top of all the advertisers that bailed, because "twitter no longer woke"? One can only guess that among the remaining twitter employees there is a fair percentage that are less than loyal to Elon at best. They aren't helping to make the gravy train profitable again?

Well, Musk is a businessman, so I would imagine it would rankle to walk through and see how many things the company was providing for free, as well as seeing how many employees were taking advantage of those things, especially the ones that wasted time, like the gaming room for instance. I imagine at this point there are no employees posting their day at Twitter to social media showing where they spend most of the day hanging out or goofing off and doing next to no work. Any stupid enough to do so are likely talking to HR soon afterwards.

Jeez, and I thought my employer putting in a ping pong table in the break room was a bit much.

    Wasn't that a parody?

I've seen parodies and I've seen what are supposedly real ones, so I don't know? I know I saw one that was supposedly real from another tech company (don't recall which) which also showed visiting a friend at Facebook, which was even more over the top, so I would believe the stuff I saw in regards to Twitter was real.

Was it? It’s my understanding that tech talent is tight in the Bay Area. So they offer a lot of free perks like this to be competitive. The big companies all do that. If musk wants to get rid of all the free stuff and stay competitive as an employer he should move the company.

I'm not saying the free lunches were. I also remember seeing a video like that, which I am pretty sure was parody. That one was supposed to be a new employee though, if I remember correctly
