Assuming this isn't just another honey trap for liberty lovers, I'm all for it. Gotta be careful when it comes to such things. The CIA has plenty of shell companies. I'll be interested to hear what the security experts have to say about it.

nothing of the message data is stored on our servers at all

Neither do any of the major providers as far as text messages. Apple can be set to auto store in the iCloud, but that's not the carrier.

Unless they are building out there own infrastructure of towers and transmission systems, of course they aren't storing location data. I'm figuring they'll do like all the other minor players, they'll buy access from the bigs. The bigs then store your location data, and that's who gets the warrant anyway. I'm sure they aren't building their own infrastructure.

What do you want to bet their OS isn't as secure as Apple's OS? A locked modern iPhone is extremely secure and difficult to 'crack'. If this OS isn't hacked it's because they didn't sell enough to be bothered with.

I suspect marketing over utility, but folks can decide as they like. I'll stick with a major provider with priority network access. I'd rather have my phone(s) work in an emergency than be worried "they" are watching me.

Fun fact: If your car is cell network enabled, your location is tracked regardless of if you have the service activated. Probably by AT&T.

I want the ability to unplug mics and cams on my phone, not just "turn them off", but actually physically disconnect them.

Prince is Blackwater/Canopy/Xyxabcd aviation, etc, right? Nothing spooky about that guy.

I am afraid I will have to open up my next television and do that exact thing. I do not want my TV watching and listening to me but I fear it will be impossible to buy one without those features soon.

No kidding! I started wearing at least underwear while watching tv a couple years ago after hearing devices were spying on owners. Well, that and my nosey neighbors continually calling the cops on me for allegedly “parading around in front of the windows with nothing on”. It’s completely bogus, but it is what it is.

As long as the TV can't connect to the Internet they can't spy on you.
Plus my TV has no camera.

IN my case, I use my TV for airwaves broadcasts, and do streaming by using my TV as a 2nd monitor in a 2 monitor setup on my computer.

I have my main monitor on the coffee table and can do my work and stream simultaneously.
My computer has no microphone unless I hook it up and no camera.

I'm writing this from the setup as we speak.

My current plasma has no camera either. But the next generation of televisions will have their own cell modems built into them, it’s already in the works for several brands.

They (The manufacturers) are dying to tap in to that data to sell. The telemetry can include everything from which channels you surf to how often you get up and leave the room, etc.

And I believe Samsung has had multiple recalls and at least one lawsuit over their fridges. He has a point.

Thread jack: When I was researching appliances to buy I would ask all of the salesmen what they suggested. One of the consistent themes was to avoid Samsung. The reason was that that was the brand they saw the most returns on.

Back to the OP relevant topics. ;)

    Wow!
If it comes to that and all TV's come with this, and there's no hacks to disable it, I'll just buy a big monitor.
But hopefully, my present TV will last a long time.

How would that work for multiple TVs though? I don't want to have to tote my laptop around to different rooms to watch TV. Plus I assume it needs to be hardwired?

It might be just specific models?

I have a Samsung 50" TV I bought in 2008 had a few bad capacitors from the red Chinese ones that MANY manufacturers got stuck with that I replaced the caps myself in about 2011, and the TV still works fine.

I also bought a Samsung 65" back in early 2016 that has been flawless.

    Good point.

Yes I do have my TV connected through an HDMI cable and use my stereo for sound.
But since I run it from a desktop, it doesn't need to be portable.

I have another older computer I use in the bedroom with a small TV/monitor for streaming and over the air in there.

It meets my needs, but I get what you;re saying.

Yeah, we have a tv on the deck that really wouldn't lend itself to hardwiring, plus one in the livingroom, and 3 others in separate bedrooms.
