What swamp did Trump drain exactly? I don't see DeSantis picking pointless, petty fights with idiots. He doesn't throw temper tantrums when someone insults his...uh...hand size. He's more articulate. More intelligent. More knowledgeable about government. I think he has potential to do more than Trump did. But agreed, that's only potential, because DeSantis has not been tested on the national stage. It's not blind faith, because he has been tested in FL and has done a very good job as governor. That usually translates well to running the country. Plenty of reasons to extrapolate that to the national stage. So NOT blind faith.

And you keep on with this tired old neverTrumper ****. Anyone but Trump? Really? At this point I'd rather not see Trump in the Whitehouse. Somehow you've reasoned that means anyone but Trump, which is pretty astonishingly bad reasoning. I want someone better in the Whitehouse than Trump, which is IMO DeSantis. But I hope that one of those two will be in the Whitehouse in Jan 2025. So no. Not 'anyone but Trump'. If Trump wins the nomination I'll vote for him. I'd rather DeSantis.

So what about you? Are you an 'onlyTrumper'? You gonna vote for DeSantis if he wins the nomination, or will you sit home because 'no one but Trump'? If you would vote for DeSantis if he is the nominee, then great. We're not all that far off. If you won't vote for anyone but Trump, I think you should probably just focus on you and stop agonizing over what other people think of your guy.

These are pretty much my thoughts, exactly. I’ve repeatedly said I would have crawled through broken glass to vote from Trump in 2020. He had his day. He did some good things and he flubbed some big things. He was not the 2A’s best friend. He prepared the way for Biden and the democrats to torture us with inflation, and covid counter measures, injurious vaccines. And still would have voted for him.

It’s time for someone new. Right now, of all the people being considered, DeSantis is, far and away, the best of the bunch.

I get it. I am extraordinarily un-fond of getting into these kinds of spats. It happens every time I dare say something not flattering of Trump. I'm not breaking rules when I do that, but I'm not going to be intimidated out of saying what I think.

Everyone here expects, and should expect, that they can say what they want within the rules. And we expect some push-back when people disagree. That's as it should be. But I will not back down when attacked for holding views some people here don't like. If you disagree with me, do it respectfully and I'll treat you with respect. You get what you give. Well, that's not actually true. I try to follow the rules. I didn't call anyone here mother****ers.

That's no big deal anymore. Even a crappy congress critter can call the President a mother****** these days so it must be acceptable.

Or maybe they changed the definition of it, they like to do that. Since they were calling Trump that I'm guessing the new meaning is "good job" or something like that.

When I was included in the set of mother****ers I'm pretty sure it didn't mean "good job". But anyway, I don't tend to refer to Trump as a mother****er. I tend to call him "pornstar ****er". But generally the only time I might refer to him as "mother****er" is when he did **** I don't like. Like, using the BATFE to make laws that congress didn't enact. His affection for red flag laws. in his defense though, I strongly suspect that Ivanka bent his ear on that one.

But, this is the mask Nazi thread. Let's get back to bashing mask Nazis. GFGT has been stellar of late. So let's get back to that. Like the above post.

It's only your opinion that you're settling for 2nd best. It's only my opinion that I'd be settling for 2nd best if Trump won. It's no more feels than yours for Trump. I'd wager less. So the bet would be that feelings play a larger role in your undying devotion to Trump than my dislike. You seem to get your cackles up when anyone doesn't worship him, and seem not to accept the fact that it's just different opinions about who is better. Feelings tend to play a large role in that sort of thing.
[Since you asked me a hypothetical, I have one for you. Suppose you don't get DeSantis in the primary campaign. Suppose it comes down to Rand Paul and Trump - one of the two will get the nomination. Knowing that Paul will have no help and few allies in congress if he manages to get elected, do you vote Paul or Trump and why do you think your choice has the best chance to beat a Democrat]

BTW, DeSantis gets that kind of treatment now, albeit scaled to a state. Of course at the national level where any threat to TPTB will be met fiercely. But I like the way he handles it in FL.
Has DeSantis been stabbed in the back by members of his own party yet because he is threatening the gravy train?

I had a bet with another member that you would go straight to the Trump-worship trope even while decrying being branded 'anyone but Trump' was still on your lips. Thank you for that bottle of fine scotch

I might have another bet. Were you a Scott Walker supporter in 2015-6? That would be indicative of 'great white hope' syndrome

I saw the thread title and jumped to the last page, but definitely did not expect it to be this lol.

I wont be masking anymore. I was taking my daughter out a couple months ago, she wanted Chinese. We pulled up to a restaurant that was still takeout only and required masks for entry... Nope. It was actually pretty surprising this far past the mask mandates.

That's my $0.02, feel free to resume the Trump/Desantis debate.

A lot of Asian places seem to still have the signs up about masks, but don't try to enforce it. Just an FYI. Place we get takeout from all the time has had the same sign up since the beginning of the COVID scare, but have never said anything since the mandates went away when I go in without a mask (and every other customer I've seen).

I don't know. I really don't know how many chamber-o-commerce republicans are in Florida politics, or what state-level gravy trains he may have threatened. Does it matter? Much of Trump's was self-inflicted because he doesn't have the political maturity to pursue his agenda in the political universe that's apparent. But sure, you can delude yourself into thinking they're just mad because he's "draining the swamp". But if any swamp had actually been drained, we'd be having a different conversation.

Congratulations. You got a bottle of scotch from your imaginary friend. Good on you. I hope your friend isn't the bottle of scotch. And Idunno. Maybe you didn't make it up. I hope this obsession you have for me doesn't turn creepy.

I might have another bet. Were you a Scott Walker supporter in 2015-6? That would be indicative of 'great white hope' syndrome
Scott Walker is a neocon. As a governor of Wisconsin, it's better to have even a neocon than a Democrat. In the 2016 primaries I supported Rand Paul.

Of course, none of this has to do with the issue of masking/mandates.

A lot of places had signs up during the mandates, that weren’t really enforcing them. It was just signaling as much as anything else.
I think this is especially correct now. In the two medical facilities I've been to in the last couple of months they post a "strict" policy that masks are required, but no one said **** to us when we didn't. The waiting room had maybe 20 people, and a mix of maskers and non. None of the maskers gave me dirty looks like they tended to do during the heart of covid. I kinda think most people are just over the whole thing.

We’re any of these IU Health facilities? They seem to be still adamant about masks…at least the last time I was in one.
