    Good for you, Frosty.

I'm stuck at 28 lbs down because, well, birthday cake happened. Today is the last of it, so hopefully I will get back on track.

Birthday cake does definitely happen  Regardless congratulations on the 28 down. It takes a long time, it’s been three years since I started this, and I’ve seen my fair share of ups and downs, but it gets easier, just got to form those healthy habits

My biggest weakness by far is sweets. Mostly candy and Dr Pepper. I'm 43 and up til May felt like I was 63. I hit 240lb and that was enough for me. At 5'9 I should really be about 180 but I think that ship has sailed. I'm shooting for around 200. I started walking every evening with the wife for 2-3 miles and about a month ago started biking again going on anywhere from 10-17 mile rides. I cut out all the candy and soda and started eating smaller and somewhat leaner portions. So far I'm down to 222. Almost halfway there.

Good for you! I got down to right at 200, but I don’t think I could maintain that realistically, that was my goal weight, it didn’t take long to plump back up into the 230’s, so I started tracking calories again and have been weightlifting hard, on rest days I walk a couple miles, on Sunday’s I do a long hike, long for me anyway. Sure has made a major difference in how I feel.

Congratulations, I'm at 222 also. I started at the beginning of the year at 250. At 5'1", I don't carry it as well as someone taller. Tired of being fat. Been fat most of my adult life-- at least 30 years.

And sweets are absolutely my weakness. Cookies, cake, ice cream... you name it.

Long story but 4 years ago I started noticing some changes. Fog brain to start. I was 184lbs at the time. I'm 5'11" for reference. As time went on fog brain turned into extreme fatigue and bone aches. Then tossing and turning all night long with sleep periods lasting 45 minutes to an hr before waking up and having to change positions to go back to sleep. This went on for 3 years and I gradually got up to 217lbs. So I started watching my diet and lifting weights again. Not much improved and I couldn't work out much at a time because of extreme fatigue. I did lose some weight over a year, about 10lbs, but any time I cheated I instantly put 4 or 5 back on. My metabolism was in the basement and didn't know why(I was 40 at the time). The brain fog, fatigue, and bone aches got so bad I literally thought I was going to die if I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I knew something was terribly wrong. There were people in their 60s that felt better than me. After a bunch of tests(bloodwork, chest xray and cardiac stress test) all came back normal I was stumped and disappointed. Finally my doc said maybe my testosterone was low. BINGO! FOUND IT! My level was 130. Now after a year of being on testosterone injections I'm down to 178lbs and have continued with the jogging and weight lifting. I've replaced almost all my fat with muscle and have tons of energy. And sleep so much better now. Amazing how much a hormone imbalance can mess you up.

Hey, glad I found this thread. I've lost 40 lbs. Been hittin the gym everyday (cardio everyday and lift every other day). And, I've been taking the moderation trail. It took open heart surgery to wake me up. Since then, I've gone from 300 lbs. to 260 lbs. (I'm 6' 3"). Since my cardiologist lifted the weight lifting limit, my weight loss had slowed WAY down. I think because I'm replacing fat with muscle. Anyway, had aortic valve replacement surgery (mechanical) and I feel GREAT. Better than I have in decades.

Oh yeah, I forgot, I've been on testosterone treatment for the past 6 months. Went from 55 to 600. I think once I hit 800, we will level the dosage back.

Got another 8 miles in this morning. My mile times weren’t as good as last weeks, but I was able to bump my average heart rate up to 128, last weeks was 124. I lost 5 pounds in sweat, actually it was probably more than that since I drank 4 bottles of water, 2 during and 2 after.

yes I need a little reminder. I'm down 40lbs but haven't lost anything all summer, gained a couple pounds. Only have about another 20 to 30lbs to go. It's hard to find the time to exercise in the summer and then the get togethers where bad food is everywhere LOL.

I need it too. I had lost 28 lbs and then was suddenly up 6 lbs because I ate birthday cake after dinner for four days. Even though I'm discouraged, I need to keep going.

Yep, keep going even through the set backs, as frustrating as they are. The goal should be more focused on creating healthy habits, which will help sustain the weight loss.

Yeah. I need to stay as healthy as I can for a bunch of reasons. I have lost 3 of the 6 that I gained. Need to look at it as building healthy eating habits rather than dieting. One thing I'm up against is that I take care of my 89-yr-old mom who is skin and bones, and I have to try to put weight on her while taking it off from me.

I completely understand. I was/am the only one in my house to do the diet, it’s been tough. Take tonight for example, today is my son’s birthday, he wants to get pizza and breadsticks delivered, so on top of the whole smelling like birthday cake it’s soon going to smell like a pizzeria! I must admit I was weak and had a little cake

My sentiments exactly. I'm also down 40 lbs. The pounds were flying off when I first started my cardio after my surgery. Then, when I started lifting weights, it slowed down to nada. That's ok, they say muscle weighs more than fat. And yes, I also allow myself a splurge at birthday parties. No sin in that. Although, since I don't eat that crap anymore, sometimes I will get a bit ill when I do. That's ok too.
Oh, I have another 50 lbs. to go.

I don't try to be perfect (I know I will fail). I try to be good. The long run (lifestyle change) is how I approach it, not dieting. I've been going to the gym for 2 months now. I already know it's gonna take at least 6 months before I notice any real changes (been down this road before). At least now going to the gym is a delight and not such a chore. I actually took a week off because I just started back to work last week after being off for 3 months (was sore from head to toe, so, decided to give the body a break). Back to the gym tomorrow morning.

Taking breaks is good. The older I get the more I realize that exercising a ton can lead to injury, which leads to long periods of downtime with zero exercise. So when I start back up again, I go super easy for the first week or two. And I only exercise the same muscle groups every other day.

I do a push/pull/leg program for weight lifting, and Sunday morning I go out and see if I can kill myself hiking, so I try to avoid leg exercise for a couple days before that or I end up hobbling around like I am now with sore legs.

I don't know how old you are but even every other day may not be enough recovery time for one muscle group.

True, there are many factors that play into work/recovery so I'm just contributing based on little knowledge of your situation.

At 60+ years of age, 3 days of strength/fitness training is just right for me when combined with the other stuff I do throughout the week and weekends. And I could probably do as well with 2X per week.
