Recluse and widow. They usually only get as far north as Indy, but I'm sure there are exceptions.

Spiders are our friends, and jumping spiders especially. They can fake looking intelligent very well.
I always say that too, actually it’s quite interesting to watch them work in the evening, however, I always warn them that we cool out here, come in my house, you’re a deadman!

I've seen brown recluses up close and personal - mostly in sticky traps, but at least one was live in a baby food jar. But this was all in Evansville.

I've never personally seen a Black Widow that I can recall - not even on our trips to Texas or Georgia. However - that said, because I know those spiders lurk more in certain areas / habitats, I didn't go searching for them, either. Brown tarantulas I saw in TX - and didn't even have to hunt for them. They came to us.

Anyhow - just about any spider is welcome on our property outside the house. If inside the house - all bets are off.

Forum member bcannon got nailed by a recluse last week and it damn near killed him. Lafayette Ind so they are well north.
I know spider serve a well defined purpose but we have no need for an insect that can kill a full grown man.
I got bit by a recluse when I was in my early 20s. My older sister took me to the ER on the second or third day after I got bit. I don’t remember what the docs did, other than having an iv in my arm. It was several days before I started feeling better, for a couple of those days I couldn’t even raise my head off the pillow without the room spinning like a tornado, and my foot was burning like it was on fire.

Still have a dime sized crater on top of my foot.

Did he keep the spider? It’s always possible but I am sus. Doctors frequently misdiagnose a variety of necrotizing wounds as recluse bites.

they are very common around his area.
He had the exterminator out to see what he has and they found a few around and in the crawl. They laid the warfare to them.

There is absolutely no need I can see for those here in Indiana

Funny I should see this thread right now…

Dog was looking at something and acting weird in the kitchen this afternoon. Turns out it was a few ants, and where there’s one, there are many.

So, being in the kitchen, I went to check the pantry. I open the door, and look inside at the floor. I don’t see ant more ants, but I DO happen to see what looks like something floating near the floor. Yep, spider webs! So I get down and take a look, and I about shat myself. It’s a baby black widow! And there’s one on the other side of the doorway, too!

So I start poking around and find three more of the little bastards in the corners by the front door. Son of a…

Grab the flash light and go out to the garage, and what do I find? Two mature spiders in different spots, several juveniles, and THREE eggs sacks.

I’m at the store right now buying bug spray to buy us time until the apartment gets the pros here. And I’m buying some long reach lighters. Once I straighten out a coat hangar and wrap ‘em all up on the end if it, those b*tches and their eggs are gonna burn. It’s the only sure way…

As someone who has mild arachnophobia, my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. I once lived in a place that was literally infested with scorpions and widows. I ain’t doing that again!! :nailbite:

Put some loose sand and pea gravel in a decent shop vac. Turn it on, suck them up and let it run for a few minutes while shaking it a bit to keep the sand an loose debris flying. Then shoot some spray in at as you shy it off. They will die.
