What no one will comment on is my posts saying you don’t have to.

They ran a sale on genII pmags at $10 and a group of us went and all paid cash no ID for the ten or twenty each bought…

I have never seen a firm no not get the desired purchase completed. To buy a gun you have to give them your life history but this is a big deal?

Bear in mind that there are people that don't like using things like the Kroger card because it keeps track of what you've purchased, or that don't want their drivers licenses scanned for alcohol purchases instead of having the DOB entered manually. Doesn't bother me, but obviously it does bother some folks.

Neither SPB or Kroger require the ID. I would guess that the scanning of ID to purchase alcohol will become even more common as it records just who they sold it to if there is ever any question as to the age of the purchaser…

BTW count me in the group that wants to purchase anything with anonymity…

Well, I like the fuel points at Kroger, so I'll continue to scan my Kroger card. :) I don't think I'm in any danger of grocery confiscation.

Yeah but once you go gas up and use both your Kroger card and you credit card in the same transaction, BAM! Tied together forever.
Of course anyone with your alternate ID (which may or may not be your accurate phone number) anyone can use your "Kroger Card" with a purchase in store or at the gas station. If they are in fact aggregating and associating payment processing information to the Kroger Rewards card, it must really drive them nuts when they see my card being used in various parts of the country by multiple folks concurrently.

That said, if they were using/tracking credit card/payment info for this kind of thing, they wouldn't really need the Kroger Rewards card to tie it together and know everything you are purchasing, when and where, etc. They would already have it. I'm guessing the Reward card is the inherent opt in, though based on some of the info in their privacy policy: https://www.kroger.com/i/privacy-policy/rights-and-choices

I'm sure that would muddy their data. I personally don't share mine but only because I don't really shop there enough to rack up a bunch of points.

Heck, Meijer knows what you buy directly to your CC or DC and give coupons you will use, based just on the payment card…

I believe Lowe's does similar as you can do a return without a receipt by giving them the card you used for the purchase, and they can then track to the specific purchase and refund the proper amount vs last sale price, etc, and don't think it's only Lowes in house card that they can do that with (at least that's been my experience in the past).

I often ponder if what one is used to in a gun retailer can have an affect on what happens when folks visit different stores. If one is used to the small town type store goes into a Midwest Guns or SPB how do their expectations play into what happens and on the other hand if one is used to the big stores and goes to a local gun store that everybody hangs out like cheers, you are the stranger, everyone looks at you, how does that play out into what happens.

Is it fair to post threads on the forum about what is perceived as poor service?

I go there frequently. Clean place, nice people and great firearm selection. I am grateful they located the business there. They run a safe operation. Not the cheapest, but I am willing to pay the premium. They aren’t hurting for customers - busy place.
