We used to sell fruit that we grew here. We had 23 acres in fruit trees when we closed the business. 2011 was our last season. The peach and plum trees have all died due to disease once we stopped spraying them but there are still a lot of apple trees out there. We ripped out the red delicious cause they are just yucky and that created a shooting lane for target practicing at the 400 yard mark. There are some others that have been pulled out to make clearer shooting at the coyotes where we put the bait pile. We have priorities. LOL

Honeycrisp should be ripe if there are any out there. I think we still have 100 of those trees out there, but without spraying them, finding good ones are not easy. Those take a lot more sprays/care than most of the other varieties, which is why they are more expensive to buy. Without calcium sprays, they rot before they are ripe and fall off of the trees.
Dad had 3 full sized trees when I was growing up. A transparent, a winesap, and a red delicious. They are a lot of work!

We have about 100 winesap. They don't come in until October but they store well so I usually try to put several bushel in the root cellar. I may do that this year if I don't have freezer space. Then, I can make pies later as we want them. I'll see how buggy they are before I lug them all down the stairs to store them. I usually store some Cameo and Fuji too since they are other later varieties and also store pretty well.

Look at the time....I better go get ready for another day at the office. I'll be glad when the new girl can return so I can work my normal hours. 11 hour days are going to get old pretty quickly. I guess she can't come back until the week after next. Her positive test was Monday and doctor wants her out for at least 10 days. I think that put her at next Thursday or Friday and we are closed Friday so he said she should just stay home until the following Monday.

I like the fujis too, never had a cameo.

Amy used to can up a bunch apple butter every year. The kids practically lived on it. Apple butter and peanut butter sandwiches, etc.

back home. i opened the bedroom window for the king this morning since it is a bit cooler. Come home and he is sitting in my chair. I guess the excitement of window sitting only applies if I am here.
