Ordered some different varieties of Carrot seeds for fall planting. Do a lot of pot roast come fall and winter so these will be great with that

About when would you harvest these?

I'm thinking of growing carrots in 20" pots on the patio next year.
We have some we started from seed that are ready now. Will be planting the fall batch as soon as they seeds come in. A lot of varieties are in the 70-90 day range for growth. Need to harvest before frost. These will go into big planters that i can move to greenhouse if neccessary

I claim no credit for any of this but my wife did an outstanding job for her first go round. We had a very good watermelon yesterday and she picked these things today (not the sweet corn). I've been eating a cucumber or two a day for the past several days and there are plenty more on the way. Tons of romas coming in the next couple of weeks and onions and garlic as well. We're both pretty excited and fired up for next year.

Had some of our purple potatoes today with dinner. Not bad. Definitely a little earthy compared to the Yukon golds we always grow. Haven't harvested those yet but did quit watering now. So about 2 weeks will dig them up

There had been a really sorry looking baggy of half a dozen seed potatoes at Walmart, marked down to nothing. So, OK, I spent a buck and tried them. Was digging a few this morning. Got almost half a five gallon bucket full off of three of the plants. I hadn't even bothered with mounding them. So yeah, reckon some of those will get saved for next year.

Got three four kinds of taters this year. I'm going to save some of the fruits as well from them and create a test bed to see what prospers, and see what if any are keepers for another variety. Maybe I'll develop the corn tundra tuber of choice.

I just figured out that the "dust" covering my cucumber leaves is powdery mildew. The ones vining on the ground have it pretty bad and it is starting to show up on the trellised vines. Do you guys do anything about this or just let it be. It's getting late in the season and production is already slowing down.

Your story loosely reminds me of the time my former wife brought home a two-gallon planter with a pathetic looking spruce tree that she got on clearance at K-Mart for $2. I laughed at her and said she bought a Charlie Brown Christmas tree and wasted her time and money. Fast forward 29 years and that now massive tree sits prominent on the front corner of the property. I sold the place 16 years ago but I still drive by occasionally to marvel at how all the small trees we planted there have grown.

I have just started experimenting with baking soda, neem oil, castile soap spraying to run off my mildew, virus, etc. Jury still out.

Welp, as of Saturday morning, my garden is officially done. I noticed that I had worms absolutely DESTROYING my kale, and what looked like thousands of little white stinkbugs all over the ground under my tomato plants. I dont use any pesticides so my kids can safely graze. (me too) Realizing most plants were almost done producing anyway, I spent two hours harvesting everything, ripping everything up, burning the infested Kale in the fire pit, and then hosing down the garden with insect spray. I wasnt about to let those insects over-winter and come back next spring to harm my plants.

In the end I harvested a large stainless salad bowl and two dish tubs of tomatoes and squash. This was the best year in a decade, thanks to the folks up at the lab in Ft Wayne who helped me get it back up and going with the proper fertilizers and amendments.
