I've taught a number of females (kids to mature women) to shoot handgun and rifle. In terms of basic accuracy, they tend to be better shots initially than their male counterparts.

    Has that been YOUR experience?
    I'm asking men and women.

Many women have an aversion to firearms...at first. But in my experience, once they(you) understand the basics and the safety aspects, they(you) take to it naturally and do well.

The support and involvement of WOMEN shooters is so important to the future of our Second Amendment. Fellas, do what you can to gently encourage the women in your lives to get involved for sport and/or personal defense. And to our sisters in arms, we're counting on you to encourage your friends, siblings, parents and kids to be proactive in their own defense and in the defense of Liberty.

This reminds me of when I was going to IU Bloomington, Indiana in the mid 1970's.
Took a course, S351 "Leadership Development in Shooting Sports".
When a student passed the course, they were an NRA Certified Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun Instructor.

Our instructor joked that it's easier on average to teach women to shoot than men, because men tend to come into it "thinking they already know everything about sex, riding horses, and shooting guns! LOL".

    Near the big river.
Coached and shot on the rifle and pistol teams at one base in the Marines. Had women ROTC students who had no/limited experience all the time. They were much easier to get on target. Men have a built in need to control a weapon, women not so much.

Biggest thing was safety! Struggled to get them to realize the need for muzzle discipline. Never had an accident but had to stay on them about it.

I have read that most women come to shooting with a clean slate and can be taught correctly from the beginning. Men/boys have watched too many TV or movie shows that from which they learned bad form which must be overcome to learn to shoot accurately.
Yeah, I've never seen a female aim her pistol sideways like some pimp. I think you're on to something, Mike. =D

Hey, Ed. A long time ago I attended the NRA Instructor's course. I would have loved to get college credit in the process!

    That was in Illinois? Wow.
IL in general is so anti-gun. I wonder if Bloomington is a hold-out 'free territory,' or is it now in line with The Stinking Onion (Chicago)?

Based on my experience, women are excellent. They don't come to the table with a "I know" attitude. As a result, their natural abilities come to bear much more quickly, naturally, and stronger.

"A clean slate" probably does account for some women's ability to learn and excel quickly. Thanks, Don.

See my "near-death experience" (ha) along those lines. I definitely hear you.

Believe it or not, it was a pretty left wing place then too.
But they still had a rifle and pistol range in the basement of the Union Building, and we used a nice outdoor rifle/pistol/shotgun range to the east.

Women are easier and more enjoyable to teach imo. Some men think they're John Wayne even if they've never held a gun in their lives.
So far the consensus among male INGO members is that women are not just easier to instruct due to a lack of preconceived ideas, but are also MORE FUN and SMELL BETTER. Amen, brothers! =D

Amazing anyway! I need to learn more about Indiana geography. So far, I just know how to get to the grocery store.

My Dad grew up in Chicago during the depression. He used to talk about how he and his best friend (at maybe 13 or 14) used to ride the streetcar to the end of the line with their unsheathed shotguns, where they'd kick up rabbits and other small game. =O

The moral of the story is that Chicago has seen better days, and might rise from the ashes to shine again one day (maybe...). Hell, it's a midwestern city, so we know the potential (if only potential) exists for common sense and renewed Freedom.

I'm glad to see that Indiana refuses to follow Illinois' pathetic example.

    Understanding there are always exceptions:

    1) Women tend to not let ego get in the way of learning.
    2) Women tend to listen and not just hear.
    3) Women almost always have better vision when it comes to color, seeing contrast, etc.*
    4) Women are honest about being afraid of recoil, etc and let you address the issue sooner. They do not have the cultural expectation of already being good at it, can't admit fear, etc.

Men have the advantage in terms of hand/grip strength, as well as weight behind the gun for recoil management. Bigger hands tend to be better for a wider variety of guns. Men tend to shy from muzzle blast less. Cultural or vision related, I don't know.

    * Seriously. There are real biological differences between the sexes for eyesight and visual processing in the brain. Look at the percentage of men who are colorblind vs women and you'll see we are 16x more likely to have color deficiencies in our vision. They really do see eleventy-billion shades of green in the paint section where you couldn't tell the difference with a gun to your head. Men, however, see and recognize movement faster. Our reaction times to sudden movement is roughly 50% better on average then that of women. In shooting terms, women can see the front sight and the target slightly better but men will start processing reactive targets slightly quicker. Not huge differences on average, but measurable.

Man! That's one well-crafted, carefully-considered post. I read and appreciate every syllable, but whittled your remarks down to the single sentence above to make a point:

Until I hit the word 'we' related to men, I was thinking this must be written by a woman. :D It's too clear, too on-point. It's always possible that your wife got into your account and posted under your name, but I'm sure that's not the case.

So based on your perspective, and your ability to express it, I'll bet you're extremely POPULAR with women. Ha! :D

    And yeah, The Who rocked.
No one knows what it's like behind these > I I

My thread below from a few years ago proving this to be fact! My wife's second shot ever with a center fire pistol rang a 3.5" spinner at 20 yards. The first shot she hit a 12" plate at the same distance.

HA! I watched your vid, and the best part is how EXCITED she is about it.

You say her developing interest and good shooting has the potential to cost you a lot of money. Yeah, that might be the LEAST of your worries... :D Straight and narrow!

Her being able to shoot like that has did not add any more worry to that category. She wouldn't need a gun for that.

So this whole gun thing with my family does cost a lot. My 12 year old daughter wanted to take up squirrel hunting last fall. Gear, license, etc. My 10 year old son wants to build his own AR. My wife just applied for her LTCH so that means gear and training.

    :spend::spend::spend::spend::spend:

But it's more than worth it.

    Y'know, that's music to my ears(eyes).

Coastal Leftists are saying this very minute, "My 12 year old daughter is in a drug rehab center. My 10 year old son has decided to undergo a sex-change procedure. My wife left me for another woman because I reject the million-dollar lifestyle her Facebook "friends" convinced her she needs."

It's a good life in The Midwest. I count my blessings every day.
