I have said for decades, that burning the flag is not speech as defined by the Constitution and should be considered an act of violence.
What if you tried to use this excuse for trying to burn down a police station because you're part of the defund the police movement?

I'd think you'd get told to go pound sand, you're getting three hots and a cot for a while.
Well, yeah but that's not 'your' police station. I would assume someone burning a flag is destroying their own property. If not, we have laws for that. Doesn't matter if it's speech or not, I loath flag burning with all my heart but the alternative goes places none of us wants to go.

Again, I agree with the sentiment. I think it's total BS for people to burn the flag, but it IS constitutionally protected.

What if someone is SO opposed to the 2A that they want to beat the crap out of anyone that owns a gun. Are they right to do so? Because it's exactly the same argument. Getting shot notwithstanding.
Oh for crap sack man. Not even close.
    Stop it OK.

And this I would agree with, because the Olympic Committee is NOT the government and they would be well within their rights to do so. Remember, the Constitution protects us from GOVERNMENT overreach only.
I don't know DD, The Olympic Committee checks a lot of the government boxes:

    Flag? Check!

    Really arrogant? Check!

    Corrupt/accepts bribes? Check!

Gets other countries to throw money at them? Check!

Edit: Has one job to do every 4 years and manages to screw it up? Check!

And my emotional rage says that burning the United States Flag ought to get you a one-way ticket to North Korea, China, or Russia.
    Emotional rage.

Two sides of the same coin, even if some refuse to see past their own noses.

Maybe someone should give you a ticket to Germany or some other European country, since they are more to your liking regarding freedom of speech.

I stand with CM on this issue , may not be a felony but you sure as hell don’t want me to be around when it happens.
The OP may wish it was just a felony because the outcome will be worse then just jail time or a fine.

One of the rights my father fought for (WW2) was the right to freedom of speech. He recognized that everyone has the rights spelled out in the constitution and that he might not agree with how they used those rights.

I can remember watching protesters on TV during the Vietnam war, he thought they were misguided and mistaken, but he would have gone to war again for their right to peacefully protest and have their say.
My father and uncles did the same. Pretty sure my Dad if he was alive would have a problem with the whole am I a male or female thing.

It may be protected speech, but as a member of an Olympic team, they represent the USA.
As such, since they don't seen to want to "represent" us, then they should be removed from the team.
This. That statement alone should be grounds for dismissing them from the team. If that happened in the NFL your ass would be traded in a heartbeat.

I still wonder if "she" will be subject to the same doping rules and the ladies. They can only have so much testosterone in the system or its considered doping. I get the feeling unless the IOC goes full SJW, she'll possibly get DQd anyway.

The biggest problem I have with burning a flag (any flag) is that we really don't know what the hell you're PO'd at! It's just too ambiguous.

Are you angry with our foreign policy? Are you angry with our domestic policy? If so, which one? Why? If you actually want us to look in the mirror and self criticize, then tell us what we're looking for. And do try not to throw :poop: in our faces while pointing. It is what is called counterproductive.

When we Libertarians protested on tax day many years ago we were very specific about what we were protesting, and what we wanted to do to fix it. We handed out flyers showing our national debt, the interest on that debt, and how much of a tax burden we were placing on the next generations. Our solution? Move toward a balanced budget and enforce it. Burning a flag would have gotten us a lot more press but not very focused on what we were against, and for.

I understand foreign nationals burning our flag. They're PO'd at us and the flag doesn't mean much to them, and it should NOT! Their flag should mean something to them, not ours. Our flag should mean something to us.

To me, the flag symbolizes all the good and decent things we STRIVE to be and some of us have been. It symbolizes the ascent of equal rights for all Americans of both sexes and all nationalities. It doesn't remind me that women or blacks or other minorities weren't allowed to vote and have a say, but rather that we as a culture struggled and for the most part succeeded in smashing the barriers to voting for ALL Americans. It symbolizes to me the sacrifices and suffering that many Americans gave and endured to save others, to defend their nation, and try to make a better future for the children that live here. To me it symbolizes trying to get justice for all, not the successes or failures, but the moral fortitude of a nation that tries to be better tomorrow than it is today.

I'll criticize the heck out of places and events where I feel our government and/or system has failed miserably, in my opinion. But to me the flag is bigger than our government and where we are. The flag represents the best of who we were, who we are, and who we can be. It represents all the good we hope to achieve. It's bigger than the federal government, all the states, and all the people. It's better than all of us, with liberty and justice for all.

    Regards,

    Doug

Agreed but lets think about this option. If you truly want to make a statement and burn my/our/your flag OK then. But you have to get a large one. Wrap yourself in it and light her ablaze and you go down in you worthless idiotic statement.

Also any ass beatings the ensue from your actions should be OK and get a pass from any LEO involvement.
I take this very personally. We have all known a wounded warrior. We all know of or have lost someone close and dear to us under this flag.

Do this in front of me. {Please. Man/woman/snowflake it matters not as you will be bleeding.
Think or say as you will. Just know this to be the truth.
Hey, if a guy is burning a flag, and another guy punches him in the face, I’m going to chuckle and keep walking.
If I’m on a jury and the guy’s crime is “burning the flag,” I won’t convict.
I disagree with the act, but know it is, and forever should be, protected speech.

I'd like to add this article to this thread. I dislike the flag being burned and I probably would do my best to rescue it if people were tryingto burnone, however let's not get crazy like the above people and kidnap people and torture them for burning a flag or flags that we care about. Let's beware what it could lead too. Such as the above article.
I've never understood the flag burning protest or the kneeling it seems very un-American imo.

Edit: added another example of loss of freedom
This man burned a Quran posted it on FB. Read what happened to him.

If a protest threatens people's lives, or livelihood it should be shut down immediately. Because it is violating the other people's rights.

So far, I only know about this Chelsea Nutsack because he/she/it wants to burn a flag on the podium IF he/she/it makes it to the Olympics and then makes it to a podium finish. He/she/it is a marketing genius. And a douche nozzle. I don't agree with his/hers/its choice in how to exercise his/her/its 1A rights but am happy in the knowledge that I or anyone out there has a right to post bail and receive due process should any future close encounter (while wearing PPE, of course) with such people go awry.
