I used to belong there years ago but didn't rejoin since it is so far from Greenfield. What does it take to become a member there now?
An act of God. ;) No, seriously, unless someone dies or just decides not to renew their membership, then it's impossible. I think it's been 2 or 3 years since they've accepted new members. However, watch their website.

    This is from the site:

    New Openings??????

There are NO openings for the year 2021. Once again we have had near complete renewal of our 500 existing member families.
Next possible date for openings is Jan 1, 2022 and advice regarding that will be posted here the day after Christmas 2021.

They let the ranks swell a bit a couple years ago, but if I recall correctly, they let the numbers come back down to 500 or so.

When there is an opening they let members sponsor people.

i don’t know if they would just let someone “walk on”.

I'd forgotten about the sponsorship. The last I remember was when they did the auction, with all the proceeds above and beyond the normal membership fees going to the 4H shooting program. I think I joined in the last time that they let people wait outside the gates on New Year's Eve.

Now you really can’t line up since they moved the gate. A few cars maybe.

Good deal. I'd like to try and get down there next weekend at some point, or maybe even next Monday (Memorial Day). Thanks!
I'm off work from Thursday through Monday so I'll be going several times hopefully. I'm not going today just to save a little ammo. I did go yesterday though.

If you go and want to meet up, let me know and I'll come up.

Been a member for a while myself. Friend/neighbor tried to join during the “auction phase” if I remember correctly it was around 2500 dollars for a winning bid

I've been a member for so many years, I can't count them. I think it was about $20.00 a year to join and I groused about the raise in cost until I saw the improvements. They really brought the property and ranges into the 21st century. When I first joined, the caretaker lived in a trailer on site. The shooting ranges were undesirable. Now they have roofs, shooting tables, gun racks, target holders, designated ranges with berms, graded gravel roads, a bathroom and porta potties. The field with automatic clay throwers is nice. The place is full of morel mushrooms, squirrels and deer. The fishing pond needs attention, but I shoot and don't fish so that's ok too. The board has done an excellent job with the improvements and keeping up the maintenance. As I understand it, they did cancel one person's membership this last year for walking across the long rifle range while it was hot, and it sounded like he was an idiot to the shooters. Maybe that will make an opening for 2022.

Yes the improvements are always a welcome surprise. The board is doing a wonderful job.

Been a member for about 15 years. 1st year was $35(?), now I don't pay attention to the $$. I write the check every year and worth every penny. The improvements are outstanding and in the 40+ years I have been shooting probably the best outdoor range I have ever been at.
    BIG kudos to the board!

Went to the range yesterday for the first time since the Martinsville section of 69 was completed. I came down from Indy and I've got to say that the whole 69/Ohio St/Artesian Ave/Mahallasville Rd. interchange is one of the most confusing, god-awful exchanges I've ever seen! Terrible signage, and the directions from Google Maps doesn't even make mention of Ohio St. or Artesian Ave. Then leaving to go back home it got even worse. There's a big honking green sign for the 69 S. to Evansville ramp, but nothing for 69 N. to Indy ramp, so I ended up missing that ramp and wandering in a big circle down Industrial Blvd. Gonna take me a few trips to get used to that whole mess!

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be as user friendly coming from the north.

I still have two ways I can come in from the south; Liberty Church Road and wind through the country or Rt 39 and come up past Indy's restaurant to Burton Lane.

What makes it bad is that Ohio seems to turn into Artesian, which then turns into Mahallasville and then it intersects Southview on a curve. And then coming back from the club, there is what looks like an interstate on-ramp (that's what I took) that really just leads back to Industrial Blvd. If they had a big green sign on the actual ramp to 69N, it would be a lot more apparent. And like I said, Google Maps is out of sync with the road name changes. I was saying a lot of bad words. :):

I know they said they still have some interchange work to do and you can tell down by the 39 interchange that it isn't right. They even put out a warning to drive slow through the area to allow locals to get used to the new traffic patterns.

Hopefully it will get better. It's already nicer for me to travel up to Greenwood. No more cutting through downtown Martinsville.

That's good to hear (that they're still finishing things up). It did look like it was kind of unfinished to me. I'm sure it will be okay once I get used to it, but it's never going to be as nice as just taking 37 to Burton and turning east.

I have made the trip a few times lately from 37 N. take the second Martinsville exit, Ohio st down the ramp to the stop light, left to the 4 way stop which is Southview turn right and follow it approximatly 1/2 mile to Burton lane. When returning you can always go a little north on Ohio st. to Rural KIng get a bag of popcorn and check out their inventory and still be in sight of I 69 and know how to get back on it.
