I just wanted to ask the question because you can get a very nice, reliable, latest model Taurus G3 for less than half of any of those, or for a third in some cases.
I have shot a Glock and it's a nice weapon. Is it $250 nicer than the Taurus?? You guys tell me.

    Pretty much Michigan.
Just depends on your taste. Ive got a cheapo ($350) walther creed that i enjoy shooting just as much as my glock that i have invested entirely to much in. On the other hand i have the new GX4 and its in the classifieds for a reason, Just doesnt tickle my fancy yet it cost more than the creed. If we all just carried something because it was the cheapest thing we would all be walking around with yeet cannons on our hip.

I’ve seen Taurus and Bersa handguns fail @ training classes and while plinking @ ranges. Fail = Not just a jam, the Taurus failed beyond what anybody present could remedy, the Bersa was jam-a-thon, if I remember correctly another class member let the guy borrow his back up pistol.

I’ve never seen a Glock, CZ, or HK fail @ either. Of course YMMV.

I mostly own HK, S&W and Sig handguns, somewhat because I prefer them personally (Love my VP9 and VP9sk guns, but dang that 320 X-Compact I picked up from another member is SWEET!).

For a range toy? Knock yourself out. Ive got quite a few cheap range toys that I love to play with but wouldnt bet life on them.

    Another way to put it:
You are buying a parachute. Do you want the cheapest one made, or the best one made? (or even something middle of the road) its your life that is riding on it, after all. Sure the cheap one SHOULD open. But will it every time?

How much do you value your life? Is it worth gambling on a cheaper gun with possible reliability issues, or do you want to pay a little more to virtually guarantee success. (it goes bang every time)

I'm not talking paying top dollar for a Les Baer, etc. Thats just silly. I'm talking a tried and true, tested weapon used by LEO, military, etc.

Everyone has a different need, want and budget. I have plenty of firearms that I would never grab for serious use, but I like them nonetheless.

That being said the g3c is a decent gun for the money. Then again the yeet cannon is just as reliable, and half the price of a Taurus.

When I was younger and couldn't afford much I carried a first gen Taurus PT111, it was a good size pistol and worked ok. The trigger and sights were the worst part of it. I never ran it real hard as I couldn't actually afford to. I upgraded as I got the ability to something with a history of reliability.
It's up to the person to decide if it's worth it, of it's all I could afford I would have a Taurus G3c, and have recommended it to some people.

I always tell people, how much is your life worth?

Taurus may have a good warranty, but a warranty doesn't help you when you need to save your life.

That glock or H&K will be worth what you pay for it, for a very long time, as well. I wouldn't call $500-600 a premium for a handgun, that's just what a normal service grade firearm costs. Premium is like a $3k+ ed brown.

Most people who actually shoot their guns tend to get away from Taurus pretty fast IMHO
I've shot the crap out of several G2c's without any problems. I have a 29 year old Taurus model 44 6.5" ported barrel have thousands of full power 44mag rds through it. I haven't done anything other than have my gunsmith work on the double action trigger pull. It was horrible. Not now though.

I haven't had any problems with the Taurus's I've had over the years.

I now only have the Taurus model 44. The G2c's went to a friend who wanted it and one to my sister who wanted one. I ran over 1k rds through her G2c in 2 days to test it for reliability and breaking it in. Ran fine.

I have also ran into a Glock 22 my nephew bought and brought it out to shoot it was a jam o matic. He sold it off and bought a Springfield 1911 45acp.
Another Glock 42 this time my daughter bought was a jam o matic as well. So not all Glocks are good handguns. She traded it off for a RIA officer 45acp. It needed some love and after a vist to my gunsmith and $50 he had it running like a sewing machine.
Now I had a Glock 20sf it was absolutely reliable it just felt like I was holding a 1x2 instead of a handgun.

I've shoot Springfield XD tactical 45acp not one problem.
Ruger American 9mm not one problem.
    CZ P10F not one problem
S&W Shield 45acp not one problem
RIA Ultra FS 10MM after the first three clips not one problem since.
    Beretta 92 not one problem

Now that said every firearms manufacturer can have lemons get out their door.

Taurus has a bad reputation for years in its past of producing garbage and then having horrible customer service which I guess it still is garbage that might be a good reason not to buy a Taurus just because of the poor customer service alone. If you have a problem and need your firearm fixed I've heard Taurus taking upto 6 months to return it to its owner.

Key statement here on the 44, it's 29 years old. Taurus from that time period was actually pretty decent.

Last taurus owner and praiser I met on the range was talking about how amazing taurus' warranty is because he was on his 5th 357 magnum barrel as it kept blowing out of the firearm, while telling me how I got scammed into paying for a name for my S&W.

LoL that is hilarious. Iirc the model 44 was basically a S&W Model 29 or was built on the same machines at the time. I'm not sure how Taurus ended up with S&W machines but they had them then.

I agree that the G2/G3 series seem to be good reliable guns for the price, at least the ones i've shot.

But I paid 350ish for my CZ P-10c and 450ish for my P-07. I like em both at least twice as much as the G2 and G3 pistols I've shot. I don't like Glocks as much but it's really easy to find magazines, holsters, sights, threaded barrels, you name it for Glocks. That aftermarket support and ability to customize is worth a lot to many buyers

Quality and reliability aside, the availability of reasonably priced magazines, holsters and other support gear make a lot of difference. As do drop in aftermarket parts to upgrade from stock operation.

Then when you decide to upgrade to the Glock, what is your G3 gonna bring in the classifieds?

Kind of beating a dead horse but those other manufacturers listed have reputations built on years and/or decades of use by law enforcement agencies, military units, and professional shooters. Taurus simply doesn’t have that track record. I’m sure they’ve manufactured some solid firearms, but their body of work doesn’t match Glock, Sig, H&K, etc. If I’m selecting a firearm for self defense, I’m going spend extra for something trusted by those that put their lives on the line every day.

Taurus is used by South American Military and police. I'm not sure what Taurus firearms they use but they are in use down there. According to Taurus there are some police departments in the United States that use Taurus as well. Again not sure what Taurus firearms they use.

They’re used in South America because they are produced in Brazil and are affordable for third world countries that can’t afford a better product. Do you really think they’d go with Taurus if they could afford to outfit their LEOs with H&K?
