What happened to all of the videos coming out this time last year of tented off hospital rooms, body bags and people hooked up to ventilators?
Why aren't they playing daily? How about people dropping dead in the streets being carted off in plastic tents with hazmat personnel?
Not paying attention to the Indian media, huh?

I remember being told last year how well things were going in India...and everywhere else, compared to the U.S. Turns out that media coverage moves faster than the virus, but the virus will eventually do what it does.

Anyone hear any media coverage lately about how well the U.S. is doing in, essentially, all metrics (vaccinations, spread, death) compared to other large countries? Me neither.

Isn't this how EVERY vaccine works?

Are there any vaccines that work by a method different than priming the body's immune response to get a head start once infected?

This argument has left me scratching my head many times... it's not like vaccines are deet/permethrin that "repels" or kills the parasites on contact.

This kinda depends on which definition of infected you are using. If it enters your body and gets in a fight with your immune system, one definition says you are already infected because you are contaminated and it doesn't matter if your immune system wins or loses. Other definitions say infected means you actually have the disease.

I don't care either way about the definitions as long as my immune system squishes it like one squishes one of those bugs with too many legs.

I think the point is that a lot of people say and believe that if you get the vaccine you do not get the virus at all and that is not true...

Those people must have missed the multitude of media reports showing 90-95% efficacy of mRNA vaccines...which while DAMN good is not 100%.

Must be the same people that think facemasks are a panacea to prevent transmission, instead of simply inexpensive droplet/aerosol mitigation.

And arguably, exposure to the virus does not mean you'll "get" the virus. Infected, contagious person coughs on a fully vaccinated person and virus gets into the vaccinated person's body. Vaccinated person's immune system, primed to identify the virus, immediately responds and destroys the virus before it replicates to the point the vaccinated person would test positive on a PCR test, let alone become symptomatic. Did the vaccinated person ever "get" the virus?

If your immune system is involved in battle I would say the person did "get" the virus, but there may be more scientific definitions...

Actually, yes, on NPR quite often. (I can hear Bug's eyes rolling)

Just this morning they had reporters in other countries checking in - got a good time to be in Brazil.

The other day it was about Germany.

If all of this was in an educational context of "that's not how vaccines work", then I'd be thumbs up.

But that's not the presentation of (paraphrase quote) "there is no vaccine that can prevent coronavirus 'infection'".

Isn't that true of every vaccine in existence for every infectious disease?

If there is even one out there that doesn't work this way, stimulating/priming the immune system, I'm unaware of it.

You can't think of anything that has changed between then and now that may have decreased the daily cases?

    Exactly.
As far as I know this is how all vaccines work.
Some people seem to have some line that has to be crossed before you are "infected". To me, one is infected as soon as the virus enters one's body and does not depend on the progress or the outcome of the battle.

    Nothing I disagree with here...

A lot of people have no thinking ability at all and act like the vaccine makes the virus disappear in thin air...

It's how they work. Virus enters body. Immune system is already aware and destroys the virus before it grows into a big enough viral load to make you sick and able to spread the virus.

Can anyone currently get access to the vaccine in Indiana?

Or is it restricted to age groups, at risk people with comorbidities, certain professions etc?

 Point was... and you know this... where in AMERICAN media concerning America, the death clocks on the networks etc.

    You're not that stupid.
I don't pay attention to the networks, other than NPR, and most of they're coverage is about things returning to normal.

There was coverage about tents, and hazmat suits and ventilators, but that was last year, when it was happening. It's not happening here in the US now.

Sometimes reporters actually do just report the news and not an agenda. (excluding CNN, of course)
