Local tv news mentioned it being dead this morning. Said local politicians blame the FOP.

Cross post from the 2021 Legislation Session thread. My comments are in parenthesis. The FOP guy in question was an empty suit at best.

Couldn't decide if I should put this here, the other HB 1369 thread, or in it's own thread.

Indiana Senate blocking repeal of state handgun permit law

(No, two Senators blocked it. There were 21 Senate sponsors.)

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Republican-dominated Indiana Senate is blocking a bill that would repeal the state’s permit requirement for carrying a handgun in public.

    (Again, no. Two Senators.)

Republicans easily pushed the proposal through the Indiana House, but Senate leaders have decided against taking up the bill in the final weeks of this year’s session. Instead, the Senate will support eliminating the $75 fee for a lifetime permit after the Legislature eliminated the state’s five-year permit fee in a 2019 bill.

(Passed 65-31 in the House. Two Senators. Cost is irrelevant when you can't get it when you really need it. Wait a minute Rod, weren't you up in arms about the loss of funding?)

Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray pointed to opposition to the bill from the Indiana State Police superintendent, the state police chiefs association and the Indiana Fraternal Order of Police.

(I see somebody else pointed out Carter was speaking for himself, not for ISP. Numerous County Sheriffs spoke in support, not one in opposition. LEOs in support significantly outnumbered those opposed. And the FOP rep was not a LEO/didn't know what an ATF Form 4473 was.)

This time next year? Trek to Fort Wayne to support the Pro-2A candidate running against Liz Brown. This time in 2024? Trek to Martinsville/Mooresville to support the Pro-2A candidate running against the Bray.

Ever done that before? Me neither!!

Like I've said before, when I meet a GOA rep at the Statehouse I'll be sure and introduce myself.
So before I send out my donations this year. Should the 2nd Amendment foundation get it all since they are primarily focused on Indiana? Or am I mistaken in that understanding? Does Guy have a organization himself?

    Guy's group is the https://the2aproject.com

The Second Amendment Foundation is a national group (Alan Gottlieb) that has been primarily involved in the major litigation cases for gun rights. They were in the Heller and McDonald cases IIRC.

I’m less happy than before and that takes some doing. The courts and the criminal code chair decided not to have a hearing for Senate Bill 199. Representative Wendy McNamara house district 76 which borders both the Ohio and Wabash rivers to give you an idea where it is, just didn’t schedule the hearing. When I got the word on that this morning my coworker thought my Tourette’s syndrome was flaring up again.

    Two points on this:

    A) It was never truly Constitutional Carry, as there were still rules in place. True Constitutional Carry would be total repeal of all LTCH rules and laws. It was never a good bill to begin with, but at least it was a step in the right direction.

    B) Relford, Bray, Smaltz, Brown, NAGR and HGR are all pointing fingers at each other for it's failure. It is ultimately a failure of the Senate Republicans to pass it and they are acting like the weak Progressives they are.

Thanks for the clarification Expat. I think all my donations will be going to the 2a project. At least it's doing something for the state which affects every Hoosier.

I sprung for a 2 year membership last week. Figure it's worth putting the money to a group, especially one founded by and INGOer, that's fully committed to just Indiana

I have had enough of the Indiana GOP effectively being center-left light duty democrats that if they can't be primaries I would consider voting for real Democrats in order to be able to get a real conservative the following election cycle.

Honestly, we're just fooling ourselves. The parties are just opposite sides of the same coin. All politicos are just clawing for a spot in that elite-autocratic class and none actually do anything remotely representative of the people. It's always about their campaign and public face; if it happens to look good for them or maybe help a few people along the way, well, that's just a bonus.

And it's partly we the voters fault. We need to vote out anyone not standing for our constitution. However, we don't. We just vote them right back into office.

We've fallen prey to the notion that a capitol R next to someone's name means they believe the same way we do. American's have become too feeble, too self-absorbed, too uneducated and too "woke" to perpetuate classic American ideals of self-responsibility, citizenship, self-reliance and service to others. Those pesky ideas of liberty, self-determination and the pursuit of happiness have been long forgotten.

Can a district recall their elected state Senator in Indiana?
