Missouri Senator Proposes Armed ‘Minuteman’ Force In Pushback to Biden Gun Control

While they are at it, I would like my private minute man rifle to be a M16 or a M4.

A Missouri state senator has come up with a unique way of helping law-abiding citizens push back against any potential gun grabs from Democrats and the Biden administration.

The idea is to create a group known as “Missouri Minutemen” which would be comprised of state citizens who fall under the command of the governor and who could be called into action during extreme life-threatening (and chaos-inducing) emergencies.

I’d have to go back and find it, but I’m recalling legislation that was crafted (unsure if submitted) in New Jersey or New York to create an “official” militia, and membership of that militia would have been necessary to possess any firearm. Of course there were stringent rules to go with it, but it was their backwards way of saying, “Ok, the 2A says you can have firearms, but WE’RE going to regulate the ‘militia’.”

About the same time they pass constitutional carry and a prohibition on enforcement of federal firearms laws, lol

Constitutional carry isn't even getting a hearing this year despite passing overwhelmingly in the House and having major support in the Senate. Indiana's RINO cartel doesn't give a **** about 2A, they'll just take pro-2A bills off the agenda and give us the finger.

At the end of the day most Republicans don't like the populace having guns any more than the Democrats do. They will posture and they will lie but at the end of the day they'll thumb the scale to stop progress.

“Any person responsible for any unauthorized disclosure of this list, in part or in whole, shall be subject to a $1,000 fine per each name that is disclosed and a Class E felony,”

That is a drop in the bucket to some. I wouldnt want my name on the list.

My desire not to join any sort of org to exercise my rights is weighing heavily on my desire for free guns and ammo from the state...

If Indiana were to say, if you own a gun you're in a voluntarily militia, come get your ammo at counter 5 to regulate with, I'd be onboard (fine print depending). Most years we have billions in the surplus coffer. I'd take some of it back...

I dont think its a bad idea even if i got nothing for it but I wouldnt want it to be corresponding with firearm ownership. I would gladly sign up for some sort of natural disaster, riot help, search party, etc type deal. Maybe there is something like that idk. I know theres V.E.S.T. but as far as ive seen at least in my county you're signing up to block traffic.

Basically in my head im thinking a group of people with atv's/utvs, trucks/ trailers, boats/kayaks, equipment like chain saws and other tools ,firearms, etc that would be very helpful in a tornado, flood, missing person scenario.

Legally there's an organized and unorganized militia under law.

Every able bodied person over 18 is a part of the unorganized militia. The national guard is the organized militia.

This just seems like a means to attempt to regulate away the existence of the unorganized militia in hopes of controlling the populace.

You convinced me. They need to issue us M4s so firearm ownership isn't a hurdle to jump.

Sorta-joke aside, you can just volunteer to do what you're talking about now with the Red Cross. They get called up for all sorts of disasters all over the place and will be happy to see you. Lady I used to work with used to do that stuff all the time. Company treated it sorta like actual NG service too so I don't think they gave her a hard time about the days off, though they could have.

    No.

I have no intention of having to sign up or be forced to join any organization to be able to exercise a God given right.

    No.

    Hell No.
Too late. You are already on that list. Welcome aboard, son.

Article 12, Section 1 of the Indiana Constitution
A militia shall be provided and shall consist of all persons over the age of seventeen (17) years, except those persons who may be exempted by the laws of the United States or of this state. The militia may be divided into active and inactive classes and consist of such military organizations as may be provided by law.

I have an outlet for that, the only prerequisite is that a member has to like military and first responders (including police).

It’s not firearms-specific, but it’s sure as heck patriotic.

Without the M4s, yep, you pretty much nailed it. They're going to your chainsaw and ATVs though. The woman I spoke of had cadaver/search and rescue dogs so that was the "equipment" she brought along.

Whatever gestapo jsx just invited you to is probably better though.

We already have a militia mentioned in our state constitution. I would imagine it would be under the control of the governor as well?

Indiana already has a state defense force/state militia, the Indiana Guard Reserve (c. 1961). It is currently under the command of the 81st Troop Command, BG Patrick Thibodeau who reports to the TAG who reports to the Governor of Indiana.

It's statutory mission is to take control of state armories in event of federalization of the Indiana National Guard. It also serves as an augmented Civil Affairs battalion in the event of natural disasters. During the pandemic, it, especially the 19th Medical Regiment, served missions independently and supplementing the Indiana National Guard.

Here is more on the IGR by John Summerlot, who commands the Search & Rescue Detachment in Bloomington:
